Summary

Republicans have won control of both the House and Senate, solidifying their alignment with President-elect Donald Trump and his aggressive “America First” agenda.

Trump’s allies, including new House Speaker Mike Johnson, aim to overhaul federal programs, enact conservative policies, and investigate Trump’s legal adversaries.

Trump nominated loyalist Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general, raising concerns among Democrats and some Republicans.

The GOP’s slim House majority could complicate legislative unity, while the Senate’s 53-seat majority provides leeway for confirming Trump’s Cabinet, including potential Supreme Court nominees.

Well, you start by legitimately winning an election by stoking fear. In Russia it was bombing an apartment block and blaming it on Chechens, in the US it’s… the possibility of electing a woman

People: America is too racist to elect a black man.

Black man runs as a progressive and wins two consecutive elections handily.

People: America is too misogynistic to elect a woman.

Two women run as neo-liberals and lose, one gets crushed.

People: See? Women are too controversial.

Like stoking fear by saying that if they vote a certain way that LITERAL DEATH CAMPS will be common place? Like telling people that they are going to LITERALLY LOSE ALL OF THEIR RIGHTS!!? Like telling people that YOU ARE LITERALLY VOTING FOR LITERALLY HITLER!!!?

Like that kind of stoking fear?

Wasn’t SOOOO cute when families were ripped apart after 2016. Kids were kept in cages. You remember that little peccadillo, Covid .

I remember when Obama was doing that. I also remember when even MSNBC was boasting that the Biden administration deported more people than Trump did, ON ELECTION NIGHT! They were parading that stat around like it was the best thing ever!

Oh, you guys just don’t like it when it’s a non Democrat that is putting up record deportation numbers?

              Got it!

That’s not the victory Republicans will think it is.

The House Freedom caucus routinely has at least one or two who dig their heels in over “this bill doesn’t go FAR enough!”

With a 218 majority, that means 100% of the Republicans have to toe the line. Not a single person can be out of line, something that rarely happens with either party. There’s usually at least ONE person who doesn’t like the outcome.

This is going to put a lot of people who are known for digging in their heels into very precarious situations. Either they toe the line and have to accept some compromise because of Democrats in the Senate looking to filibuster. Or they alone hijack the Republican plans.

And woe if someone dies, gets sick, or retires in office on their side, something that also happens at least once per year on either side.

aim to overhaul federal programs, enact conservative policies, and investigate Trump’s legal adversaries.

“America First” was always an oxymoron. MAGA always means great for certain people. It’s going to be surreal to have to listen to both the gloating of tasting liberal tears while asking why the Democrats aren’t doing anything to help the country.

The continuation of draining the swamp by…

I personally think draining the swamp is an apt metaphor… wetlands are critical environments, so draining the swamp evokes the anti-environmental bent of the republicans, as well as a metaphor for their erosion of our democratic institutions. Not that a trumpet would see the irony

Well, in 2 and 4 years when they have accomplished nothing useful despite have all three branches, people will be ready for a big change. At least I can hope, right.
