Story of my life lol.
I’ve been taking melatonin gummies before bed, and those seem to be helping.
Don’t rely on melatonin pills because then your body stops making its own. Look at magnesium and zinc. Do that with a multivitamin (whose magnesium oxide and zinc oxide are hard to absorb) and you got everything.
I do have all of those in my cabinet, but wasn’t aware they would help with falling/staying asleep. Def agree about not becoming dependent on melatonin supplements; I try not to over-do it, but sometimes when I have important stuff to do first thing in the morning, I don’t want risk being a zombie from poor/no sleep.
Hmmm.
I got the magnesium supplement, but I didn’t know about zinc oxide and I didn’t know they were hard to absorb.
I better look up what foods those guys are in, make it a little snack before bed instead
Melatonin seems to have a negative impact on my sleep.
I should try multivitamins
Yep, this is me.
Stupid brain turns on at 3am, refuses to turn off and always complains.
Sleep apnea is fun, too. Just add him ‘sleeping’ for a very short time between those panels.
Getting a cpap was borderline lifechanging for me.
Yeah most everyone says the same, which is awesome. It doesn’t seem to do anything for me unfortunately. I like the air pressure, but there’s no difference in anything else.
Right there with ya bud, wish so much that it would work for me.
It’s good to know there’s others it doesn’t work for.
I used one for sometime and I found it made me feel short of breath in the morning. Like the feeling after jogging for a couple miles but from sleep.
That’s interesting. I wonder if your air pressure setting wasn’t high enough or something.
It was set when perscribed, then my doctor retired and left me with the device and no real guidance or continuation. This was back in 2020-21 and I havent used it since. Also the unit was recalled for having insulation find its way into the airway.
Ah gotcha. Yeah the newer ones have a digital settings menu you can change anytime. I definitely wouldn’t want insulation in the tube though, thats no good.
I’ve recently learned that consistency of going to bed and waking up at the same time matters more for long term health than sleep duration. I used to obsess about getting 8 hours but go to bed at various times between 10pm-1am and I’d never set an alarm on the weekend. Since doing a consistent 9:30pm-7am my health and energy has improved tremendously in the last 2 months. I’m already starting to wake up before my alarm. I highly recommend trying this if you haven’t already.
I can very easily plot how good I feel on any given day against how consistent my sleep/wakeup times for the last week have been.
If I know I fell asleep at midnight, and woke up at 8am every day for the last week straight, damn will I feel energized today. But if I know last night I got to bed late, then went on my phone, and hit snooze on my alarm, yup I 100% deserve the grog and demotivation I have today.
I kinda got addicted to sleep medicine.
When I stop taking them, I have weird nightmares.
Last night (actually the “night” happened like 24 hours ago) I had a weird dream about taking a train for some reason, then everyone around me suddenly turned into zombies.
Like what the actual fuck.
I’m gonna get creeped out if I ever get on a train ride.
But shitty thing about sleep medicine is that they apparantly cause dementia if you take them a lot.
ugh idk what to do, don’t wanna get in weird zombie apocalypse dreams tho… 🤷♂️
Man none of my dreams ever make sense. They’re not usually true nightmares, but occasionally. They’re never fun or relaxing, they’re always a little bit WTF, but somehow my brain still tells me, yeah sure, this is all real! And then I wake up confused. Always been that way. I’m jealous of people who have nice dreams. I’d rather have none at all rather than the junk my brain throws at me.
I had a dream the night before last that I was in an abandoned movie theatre and suddenly we got attacked by ghosts. I was the only one that could see them. The ghosts took the form of puppies and babies that I had to fight using a metal cafeteria type tray, so I was flinging ghost babies into the air with it.
Weird dreams are my normal but I usually forget them.
Something with diphenhydramine or doxylamine? They aren’t great to take for very long at all.
But if you notice a dependency, I don’t recommend the RX sleep meds I’ve been on for so long. One was effective for a very long time (15 years? Lunesta I think) but has gotten weaker and weaker. I’m terrified of stopping it though, its a nonbenzodiazapine so it binds to the same stuff as benzos. Taking something so long like that is bound to cause problems when I stop.
I’ve heard therapy helps. But I’m not sure how. Hasn’t done much for me.
you might try a Valerian Root extract tincture. Just make it your self with ethanol everclear and some Valerian Root, make it strong.
then have some before bed and odds are that you’ll be well out. But don’t buy a crap version, get a good strong one or just make it yourself, it’s easy.
Wait hold on
Aren’t you basically just taking a shot then?
Don’t forget the Valerian Root!
I usually just take a few shots for the road
Tell me more?
