There was a post by someone else covering pretty much the same today, but sadly it was removed by mods for “low credibility source”. Which is a shame because there was a lot of discussion. But hey, rules are rules, so here it is from a credible source.

The authoritarians want ultimate power again

They already do. At least in the middle east. If not, this law wouldn’t have gone so far.

If not, this law wouldn’t have gone so far.

Technically it’s an amendment, and it’s only been proposed which (not an expert on Iraq government) I believe is the first step and doesn’t really require anything to be done.

Like, anyone in the government can propose anything.

Capitalism is in decay and panicking to preserve itself. Usually that means fascism.

      Far right religious extremists.

Doesn’t matter what the religion is, they all want 99% of the same shit, but the non-religuous just can’t match their organization because for lots of them it’s their entire identity tied up in their religious beliefs.

If their far right leader tells them to have an opinion, they take it as straight from the god(s)

Stripping power from families to give to religious figures has never and will never be a good thing
