Yes, absolutely. It is both more technically engaging and less punishing than something like Stray. There’s no “damage” of any kind, including fall damage, so there’s no game overing to worry about. The one time I managed to “die” in this game, I had found a way out of bounds and then fell into the void. The game just put me back at my last spot in bounds, no progress lost, easy as anything. The only thing that requires any kind of skill is jumping and pouncing, and even then, only because the reticle takes a little getting used to. If we’re being totally honest, this game was made by one of the original Half Life devs for his children.

My gf and I adopted a pair of kittens, half siblings. A couple months later, one of them came down with FIP. For those who don’t know, FIP is basically a death sentence. Until recently, it was basically incurable and always fatal. At first, we didn’t know what it was. Timmy (yes, that’s actually his name) was doing just fine, then he had a twitch. Then that twitch turned into spasms. Those spasms became seizures. At that point we took him to the vet, and they had to keep him for a couple days to run tests. While he was gone, his sister would walk around the house crying, looking for him. That testing is when we found it it was FIP. I remember one time specifically, I was playing a game at my desk, she came in and looked at me, looked around the room, and just stood there meowing for him. I broke down crying on the spot. The thought that her brother was going to die, and she was going to keep looking for him tore me apart. I dunno, something about this post pulled on the same heartstrings, I guess.

For whatever it’s worth, our story actually had a happy ending. The interesting thing about FIP is that it’s actually a cousin of Covid. Some company was trying to join the running for creating a Covid vaccine. They hadn’t made it to human trials yet, but somewhere along the way data came out saying it would be effective against the FIP virus also. The manufacturer wasn’t interested in the animal component of the vaccine, so they never tried to get it approved for that, but it’s possible to get it if you don’t mind dealing with shady Chinese suppliers. And if you’ve got the cash. My gf and I did double shifts on Doordash, did a fundraising campaign, and still put nearly 6,000$ worth of meds into this cat. But it worked. He lived. He’s now the best cat we’ve ever had. More importantly, his sister still has her brother. Her meowing for him is just a memory now.

Roboquest! An absolutely delightful high-speed rouge-lite first person. It feels very Borderlands-y, in both aesthetic and gunplay. It’s packed to the gills with secrets, challenges, and skill expression. Tons of fun, like, 25$ on Steam, two player co-op with matchmaking, go buy it.

My family is my family and I don’t talk to them

I work at a bank call center. One time I had someone call to check the balance on an account they recently opened with us. The bank I work for is regional, and this caller was on the other side of the country. The account number they gave pointed to an expensive private school in our area. When I asked for more information, the caller said they gave someone 500$ to open the account for them, and that person gave them some checks from us with that account number. I got my lead on the line, did some more Q&A, and we determined this person had been scammed, and given fake checks. The lead said they would close the account. The next week I get a direct message from the fraud investigation team director asking me why this account wasn’t closed. I was able to provide a screenshot of the message from my lead saying they were going to close the account. They thanked me and that was it. I went to check on it, and over 60,000$ in fraudulent checks had cleared the account in that week. I’ve only been working there a few months, and I’m 60,000% sure they would have dropped me like a hot potato on the spot.
