Nebula is such a fun and weird little song - it’s one of my favorites as well.
The thing about Incubus is you never really get the same band on any of those old albums. They continue to evolve and grow, experimenting with their sounds and concepts all the way.
At least… up until 2009. After that things fall a bit flat. Most recently, the lead singer (and heartthrob) Brandon Boyd had some nasal issues come up and his voice fell off a fuckin cliff. Fortunately, he had corrective surgery and has mostly returned to his usual form.
I just don’t think they’ll ever make interesting music again because I think they’ve lost that drive to risk and experiment. But that’s life: we have to appreciate the things we have instead of dwelling on the things we don’t have.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was so great for me because I discovered it after I already loved the band. It was like I got to discover a whole new side to them that I didn’t know. It’s one of my favorite albums because it’s just so raw. You can tell they were just really excited to be making their own music and they weren’t going to compromise until they got the vibe they wanted (even if the musicality wasn’t phenomenal).
Hell yeah! Would love to know which albums you end up liking (if any).
A list like this is how I got into Jimmy Eat World, so I’m happy to pass the stoke on for a band I truly love.
Oh, buckle up!
All of the newer stuff sucks (post 2009, specially the Morning View album remake), but the whole of the original Morning View album is phenomenal.
Incubus is a band that has changed their sound distinctively throughout the years. If you want to experience that, here’s what I recommend:
Album: S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Motif: A fusion of metal, rock, and funk. Raw sound that focuses more on zany immature lyrics and excellent vocal talent. Just a lot of fun to play on full blast in the car. Recommended songs:
Album: Make Yourself Motif: A movement away from focusing on drug use and sex and more about self discovery and the joy of independent thought. The band really matures into alt rock at this stage. They still have some signs of funk, but the band begins to show the first signs of their more relaxed vibe that would permeate Morning View. Recommended Songs:
Album: Morning View Motif: Keeping their alt rock roots, the band shifts into a more relaxed sound in the latter songs of the album. The band has stated that this was their favorite album to record and it shows. This is the album that defined a lot of my life outlook as a teenager. Recommended Songs:
Album: A Crow Left Of The Murder Motif: Guitarist Mike Einziger’s most refined sound. The band ditches most of the chill vibes for a more angsty tone. There’s a lot of cultural commentary in this album. That said, it’s here that the band starts to fade from glory a bit. Recommended Songs:
If you’ve made it this far, I recommend checking out Light Grenades, but that album really starts to lose the original raw spark that Make Yourself had.
Enjoy Incubus!
Incubus! Seen them 3 times and each show was phenomenal.
Reduce social anxiety by being able to do stupid human tricks when hanging out with people.
This is gold and I’m so thankful for this knowledge.
I wish I could limit the response to just one picture so I could use this as a meme generator in response to user comments.
Game scared the shit out of me as a kid
The amount of sword artists in this comment thread is higher than I expected.
Holy crap, How does one find something like that
“A pleasure is full grown only when it is remembered.” - CS Lewis; Out of the Silent Planet
We can’t go back, but your remembrance of how good it was back then is pleasurable in and of itself. Wishing you well on your journey, time-voyager.
The original intent is what my understanding was and why I don’t upvote reposts across multiple communities.
Just a few moments ago I upvoted a post that I didn’t “like” because the discourse on it was so good.
…There’s definitely stuff I still hate-downvote tho 😈
Still up to the site itself to decide what is “violating content”. This puts a chilling effect on upvoting and gets Reddit one step further from what it once was.
About fucking ready to wipe Budget rental car off the face of the earth for the bullshit they gave me about their insurance.
Learned a tough lesson from that one.
EY! I’m swimming’ ova here!
Maybe that’s her marketing plan to get more fans?
After the announcement of tariffs, world markets saw Canada and China’s markets drop a couple points and the US’s surged a couple of points.
If you knew that market shift was coming and had a few billion in international markets and sold while the US surged, you made a shitload of money (at least, “shitload of money” from my perspective, because I’m a poorsie).
Holy shit, Americans. What is happening to you?
I actually think the bad one shot is kind of part of the joke.
For instance: Someone posts a petty revenge story about getting back at their ex boyfriend for cleaning out their bank account.
I comment on that post with my request to aihorde along the lines of “a drag queen lifting a champagne glass as a toast to how delightfully petty someone is being”.
AIHorde will then generate the image.
Regardless of how good or bad the gen is, my original intent will come across because the OP can still see that my AIHorde prompt was intended to compliment OP. The bonus is if AIHorde comes up with an awesome output, it will be hilarious. It the output is terrible, also hilarious. If the output is so-so, the original intent of a compliment was still delivered.
At least, that’s my thinking.
As an example: Slack kind of had this functionality when sending GIFs awhile back. If you had the Giphy integration, you’d just type “/gif {topic}” and the integration would select a random gif that was returned from searching your topic. This GIF would be posted in the chat without you having the chance to review it first. Sometimes the GIF returned was irrelevant result, but everyone brushed it off because they knew how random the integration could be. Other times, it returned the perfect GIF and the potential randomness of result made a good GIF result even more satisfying.
