  • The issue with Musk is the very clear meddling in EU politics first, second his insane behavior and third, his Nazi salute.

If he kept in his lane and just kept his MAGA insanity stateside the Fallout would be a lot less worse.

But the moment he entered the EU political scene he murdered his brandS in the EU.

they will never recover. The damage was done at the worst time possible, when kia, Hyundai andthe entire German automobile industry went all out with EVs and China (byd) entered the EU EV market.

    Tesla is done.

    SELL. don’t HODL.

  • Not that guy but another: No. You? Because Microsoft is a lot of things but walled gardens is something out of Cupertino. Not Redmond.

You can call MS shitty and I would fully concur but a walled gardens it’s not.

You don’t need ad, Exchange/outlook, m365, entraid. They’re nice for most users but you can live without and use other services in their place on any MS platform.

Now, iOS… Have fun with that.

  • I somewhat got your arguments. I just don’t feel the same about current day powertoys. They are not needed, don’t add anything useful and don’t work in a lot of setups. Current day powertoys are not what powertoys of the past where.

MS being focussed on the wrong shit to soon: well that has been true ever since the company existed. In the end looking back each and every innovation they did was needed but just years too soon and way too rough around the edges. I Guess we’ll see the same with ai. Some things will stick and be used by others but refined.

  • All the things you say are mandatory are a distraction at best. And hog a lot of resources.

Spotlight run: adds nothing except being a slow down. It’s not that different from the standard search/run box. It just looks nicer. Way nicer.

Fancy zones: does not work reliable on multi monitor/big monitor setup. Useless in my use case. Has been for several years.

Fie renamer: … Really? This is a power tot these days?

Screen ruler: i don’t need rulers on my desktop, i need them in my apps.

Color picker: same. I do not have any use case for it. This is standard app functionality.

Every time i installed powertoys in the last 4/5 years i shrugged, cursed at Fancy zones for not working in my setup and removing it after a few days.

That’s the same usage loop as rainmaker or most stardock tools by the way. Good ideas but fucks up to many things.

The new tabbed shell. (Or not so new anymore these days) Now that is a real powertoy. Or the lnx subsysteem.

Some people, especially teachers, burn in your memory.

I had a same"ish" thing with a teacher who tried to flunk me but failed at his own math. Funnily the guy who couldnt count and divide gave general economics, business economics and business administration. He hated my guts and I his.

Anyway, My average was a 8.5, he gave me a 3 for an oral exam thinking he flunked me as it was half of the total average before the written exams. He Glee fully shared my grade with the class. I reminded him as emotionless as I could that 8.5+3=11.5/2=5,75 so still a pass. And with the written exam on the horizon, which I would not screw up because I was good at it and he would be unable to screw me over on it because written exams are checked by several other teachers as well…

He just lost it. He bursted in flames, started raging and kicked me out of all his classes for the rest of the year. This was in december/January, the exams where in may.

Naturally I passed all his classes with even the highest grades of the school for the written exams. It was very clear to every one he tried to fuck me over when seeing the grades.

Every teacher congratulated me. Asking me how the f i did that without any lessons. Except he. He saw me at the exam presentation, got all red and just fucking left.

I laughed at the loser he was. I still remember the law prof smirking as well over the situation. And his name i cant remember. But this guy who tried to fuck me over because he just didnt liked me… his name is burned in my brain forever.

And I remember all this to this day. This was in 1994. What an ass that guy was. It was also my first experience that most Adult people are not honest. And that them being nice is mostly a charade. And they will fuck you over for looking the wrong way or especially for a small percentage.

  • Yup. And someone is very proud about killing him, safely from a seat far away while sipping Coffee.

    And then post this shit.

I dont care who is who or who is right. Pics and vids showing murder (because thats what this is, there was no military gain for killing a single soldier walking alone in the open) should not be posted.

We will never recover from this new form of warfare. Like the first ww with it’s use of chemical weapons. Or the 2nd with its missiles, firestorms (Dresden) and ultimately the atom bomb.

Drones are just as disruptive as those things. They’re scary. It borders on terrorism. You cant truly defend yourself from it.

I dunno, I still find m365 family a great deal. 5TB cloud storage for less then 100 euro a year? And get the best most complète Office suite as a bonus?

If you compare that to the competition it’s a slam dunk. I need cloud storage. I need an office suite.

Same goes for prime here in NL by the way. Unlimited photo storage, free games monthly, streaming, Luna, free shipping for less then 6 euro.

Yep, regular guy in the 80s doing programming.

Thats even now not so regular, that was very special and very high paying back then.

So amazingly, you being in your 70s (80s where 40 years ago after all) now and still unable to really fathom, comprehend, how very very good you probably still have it compared to others is telling enough. And that was one of the two binary options i gave for the 80s: too young too comprehend, too rich to care. You clearly fell and probably still fall in the latter category.

Not a lot 70+ year olds on Lemmy btw.

That all, combined with the use of the lpt acronym makes me doubt your age. That, or i’m talking to a llm.

Binary is boring that is true. It also has a 50% chance of being right the first time.

Well if you enjoyed the 80s soooo much then a) you where too young to grasp the problems facing your parents or b) you where too well off.

Just look at the cinema and listen to the music of my fine period.

Everything, every theme was: please dont kill us and can i have a room to call my own.

The politics where insane, mortgage rates of 10-15% where the norm, enormous economic shifts.

The 90s where fun but the eighties where, in my experience, very, very dark.

Ever listened to, I dunno, two tribes, war, dancing with tears in my eyes, Russians, etc.? Those first albums of u2? Really grasped what Terminator was about? Wall Street? Or the much lighter but still terribly fucked Trading Places?

It was all really dark stuff, my brother. Fun, but very dark.
