I just don’t understand why people go to the lengths they do as cyber bullies. Isn’t ignoring a person you detest a more reasonable method than investing all of that energy and time into doing petty nonsense?

They may be the only company in this space as unfocused as xAI. They basically bought a podcast to use as a mouthpiece. It’s just dumb and anyone who would consider investing in this company as to doubt their leadership and decision making. What a waste of their money.

Pass the bill and the refine it over time. People will find loop holes and then those can be closed as needed. Laws don’t need to be perfect at first pass, but getting it on the books would be a huge shift in the right direction.

This doesn’t surprise me. While I take some low dose meds, the periods of my life where I exercise even just a little, are significantly better overall. I started my current low intensity program now and I have much more energy to balance work and being a dad and husband. Glad the science is backing it up, but I hope this doesn’t cause people to just assume exercise will help everyone with much greater burdens than I have.

Don’t downplay the importance of influence. That was a large audience and using the platform to at least say something encourages others to start being comfortable saying the same thing. Most people aren’t the protestors in Minneapolis, including most of us here. By opening the door to outward criticism, people that follow these artists and listen to them are being given further permission, internally, to voice the same opposition.
No, it’s not as brave as standing face to face with tyranny in the streets, but both fronts are worth fighting on.

Another confirmation that it’s all performative. They just want to be on camera for the biggest TV event of the year.

Shortly after the speech, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was already on the defense. In a post on X, she quoted News Nation reporter Libbey Dean, who pointed out that Trump mixed up the two names.
“No he didn’t, Libby[sic]. His written remarks referred to Greenland as a ‘piece of ice’ because that’s what it is. You’re the only one mixing anything up here,” Leavitt wrote, attaching a screenshot of a Google result for Greenland showing a large chunk of ice floating in the ocean.
It’s amazing how willingly they lie when the OBVIOUS TRUTH is right in front of our eyes.

The son then allegedly admitted to “removing the gun from the safe, loading bullets into it and walking over to his father’s side of the bed”, according to the affidavit. “He pulled back the hammer and fired the gun at his father,” the affidavit adds.
When asked what he believed would happen when he fired the gun, the boy responded that he was “mad” and that he had “not thought about that”, according to investigators.
Jesus man. This is a horrific situation. That poor woman lost her husband and, effectively, her son in one night.

I mean she was 23 or 24 when she said those things. Most of us are total morons at that age.
I hate that there’s no room for atonement and growth in the current conversation. I don’t know anything about her other than what I see in this article, but if she’s genuinely sorry and looking to support the people she hurt, that’s worth a ton. She grew as a person. Good for her.

They probably need to show investors that the money spent developing it is worth it. “We’ve added X amount of users this quarter alone!”

You can’t unless you block social media which includes YouTube. At the end of the day, with my 8yo, I’m taking the approach of using parental controls to limit exposure to content he shouldn’t see and then doing my best to ensure he knows how to spot AI videos in their current state.

Eligible or not, I don’t think she’d be a good president. She’s tactical and hands on. FTC was perfect for her because it played to her strengths and gave her a chance to have high impact. I would love for her policy beliefs to influence a president, but I’m not sure she would succeed if she wasn’t able to be in the weeds.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. The online tech community is a very small part of a much larger pie and they need to serve multiple audiences. As long as it can be turned off and truly be off, who cares?

What’s going on? The same thing that happened with Biden:
The guy is 79 and working one of the toughest jobs in the world and also chooses to stay up late at night ranting like a lunatic. The job ages everyone who takes it. Doing the job at 79 is very different than doing it at 50 or 60.

Roach estimated he spent 20 or so hours on the suit, including arranging to have a summons served on Verizon and arguing his case in a court hearing. Roach didn’t get much of a payout considering the amount of time he spent, “but it wasn’t about that,” he said.
He did it himself and the ruling includes compensating for the costs associated with.

Man, this guy was on a mission and I respect it.

Sorbitol-degrading Aeromonas bacterial strains convert the sugar alcohol into a harmless bacterial byproduct.
“However, if you don’t have the right bacteria, that’s when it becomes problematic. Because in those conditions, sorbitol doesn’t get degraded and as a result, it is passed on to the liver,” he said.
Pretty big caveat but the sensationalist headline is all people will see.

From the article:
In May, on Costco’s earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip told investors that about a third of Costco’s sales in the U.S. are imported products. Millerchip said items imported from China represented about 8% of total U.S. sales.
Millerchip said that while Costco was seeing a direct impact from tariffs on imports of some fresh food items from Central and South America, it decided not to increase prices “because they are key staple items” for its customers.
Some of those fresh food items included pineapples and bananas. “We essentially held the price on those to make sure that we’re protecting the member,” he said.
In September, Millerchip told analysts: “We continue to work closely with our suppliers to find ways to mitigate the impact of tariffs, including moving the country of production where it makes sense and consolidating our buying efforts globally to lower the cost of goods across all our markets.”
I think context matters here. There currently isn’t any outwardly unethical behavior on their behalf and they’re building products that are designed to be maintained and upgraded, which is a big step forward when you consider things like e-waste and protecting the environment. Those products still contain materials that through mining or producing, result in pollution and potentially underpaid labor in large factories.
I would say the scales tip to them being currently more ethical than competitors in the same space. That could change at any time and I’m sure there’s stuff we don’t know that some would frown upon.
