I do not. This was the interviewer’s experience through conversations, not a rigorous scientific study I think.

I listened to an interview with a woman who researched aging and spent time interviewing lots of elderly people. The majority of those interviewed called their 60s the best decade of their life. I also dislike the myth that your youth was your peak and it’s all downhill from there. There’s good in all times of your life, lean into the experiences that are available at the time and don’t worry about how good the past was or how the future might be worse.

I think Hades is not the same as Hell. Hades is where all the dead go in Greek Mythology. Hell is where only sinners go to be tortured for eternity in modern Christianity.

I think you two are speaking about different steps in this hypothetical transition. You are talking about the long term goal, the other person was talking about the transition from now to the long term scenario. There is very real danger that the power vacuum left by the x-billionaires could be gobbled up by a small group of people. This cannot be dismissed even if we all agree on the end goal.

Secondary critique, set the wealth cap in relation to some other moving metric. I think a multiple of minimum wage would be great, give incentive for the wealthy to increase minimum wage to achieve a higher cap.

Thanos’ plan was so fucking stupid. He wanted to eliminate half of the population to reduce the lack of resources. This completely ignores how populations grow exponentially and will be back to the original quantity in a generation or two… His plan kills half the population while not actually fixing the resource problem.

A great point! I feel like the overarching end goal is a meritocracy - people are rewarded for their talents and hard work. I’d wager most people agree with this goal.

The problem becomes disentangling history and circumstance from our ability to measure talent and hard work. The only way we know to break some social norms that hinder a true meritocracy is to unfairly manipulate the playing field in the short term, which in itself does not follow a meritocracy.

I think there are a few main obstacles:

1. Perceived talent and hard work that was actually the result of circumstance - those that think the system is currently working and therefore their position is justified.
2. Lack of acceptance that the goal is long term / generational. Those that are unwilling to accept a temporary ‘manipulated meritocracy’ in the short term that would allow a better one in the future.
