Dyslexic fonts don’t help dyslexia, and the internet’s idea of how dyslexia works is wrong.

But the new fonts—and the odd assortment of paraphernalia that came before them—assume that dyslexia is a visual problem rooted in imprecise letter recognition. That’s a myth, explains Joanne Pierson, a speech-language pathologist at the University of Michigan. “Contrary to popular belief, the core problem in dyslexia is not reversing letters (although it can be an indicator),” she writes. The difficulty lies in identifying the discrete units of sound that make up words and “matching those individual sounds to the letters and combinations of letters in order to read and spell.” In other words, dyslexia is a language-based processing difference, not a vision problem, despite the popular and enduring misconceptions.
Researchers put the font to the test, comparing it with two other popular fonts designed for legibility—Arial and Times New Roman—and discovered that the purportedly dyslexia-friendly font actually reduced reading speed and accuracy. In addition, none of the students preferred to read material in OpenDyslexic, a surprising rebuke for a font specifically designed for the task.
The idea of making fonts more legible is good, but it doesn’t help dyslexia specifically.

Why? I thought France had nuclear

“code local and push remote” is only more efficient if you have a faulty connection with ssh or want to use a GUI editor that doesn’t support remote connections. What you’re doing is good. You can scoure for more “modern” ways that might have more glimmer and sparkly lights, but it won’t improve efficiency.

We need a way to scan Lemmy posts for reposts from Reddit, to mark and block them all entirely

Nuclear is great for investors, data centers, and the military. The amount of energy it produces allows for more energy intensive operations and research, gives a lot more energy for everyone to play with, but they can also now import nuclear material for “energy” reasons.
Best course of action if you believe these things are good. Bad if you think people should be able to produce their own energy, and don’t need that much energy to prosper.
This isn’t programmer humor… post to the right comm like fuck_ai@lemmy.world

Dress shoes
Rich people wanted to pretend they always ride horses, so they always wore slim shoes. This became the standard for all shoes, and everyone has been suffering since

They find green (not yellow) grass amazing

Imagine everyone can run their own version of Reddit, and these versions can talk to each other (or block each other). You join one of them, and can see the subreddits (communities) from all of them

I wouldn’t call my male friendship status any better or worse than my non-male friendships.
Lots of people that I wish to hold contact with but also don’t wish to be in contact with too often. It’s not too difficult for me to pick out similar folks or be picked out by similar folks in a crowd of people, so I’m not in a rush to make more connections.

I’m not sure Tetris has a case here though. Do they have a patent on colored blocks falling down? You’re not even making rows clear

The government is not a single entity. When I read “US government” I anticipated congress or a court ruling. But it was neither, just Trump (which we already know)

Misleading title from Techcrunch. It’s the Trump Administration only (which we already know)
I have so many filters just to block depressing news… Also to block strange hive mind posts about beans etc.
That’s one thing you can do here that you (no longer) can on Reddit
