I don’t agree that it worked. Regular folk in the US have a modicum of rights now, none of which can be attributed to the revolution.
science and music. and beer. and dogs.

The rest of Britain became democratic without violence. I’m not convinced that the revolution was necessary to throw off the oppressors. I think it was more about protecting the wealthy in the colonies.
You can only achieve a fair and civil society through fairness and civility. That is what (most of) the democrats have been working on for the last 50 years.
It’s always tempting to think that you could “defeat” evil through violence, repression, suppression, and exclusion. Instead, you only become it.
edit: I really don’t mean to lecture here. I wrote this because I saw myself in the comment I replied to, and I needed to remind myself to be kind.
His disdain for NASA’s caution is obvious.
What a dumbass. If we send people in the quickest possible way (or any way at all, really) and they all die in the attempt, that will set the whole project back decades.
The answer to the radiation problem is better shielding, not a fundamentally unsafe mission.
btw it is not the nuclear propulsion that I’m calling unsafe. It is the idea that we could do without redundancy. That’s just a monumentally stupid idea.
It would be like calling FEMA ‘democrat run’ when talking about the latest hurricane recovery efforts. It is literally true, but it is not relevant. To add it would only serve an editorial purpose, not a factual one.
Your typo makes it sound like they’re doing something terribly cute!
What the actual fuck do these nutjobs think the FEMA workers are doing? Looting? Registering non-citizens to vote? Eating the dogs? What?
I’ve never heard “as the crow flies” used that way. It is always used to talk about distance, not direction.
Exactly. In other words, they have not been “allowed to infest” the fediverse.
I have not noticed any threads content in Lemmy.
All the great song writers were mediocre singers. I’m talkin’: John Prine, Steve Goodman, Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Neil Young, even Willie Nelson I would put in this category.
A weird exception is Joni Mitchell. IMHO one of the best singers of all time, and an a-list writer too.
Take a better look at a trump rally. This has nothing to do with age.
Many here will be seeing this for the first time. For others it will be a fun reminder of something they haven’t seen for a long time. Still others will find it to be the same old tired shit they’re sick of.
When you see the same old tired shit on Lemmy (or any social media), just move on. There will be plenty that is new to you.
Electing someone who believes that we should have laws and enforce them is exactly what we should do.
When she was a prosecutor, it was not her job to change the laws or decide which ones to enforce. If we don’t want non-violent drug users and truants prosecuted, then we should change those laws. We have a process for that, and it doesn’t include prosecutors making those decisions for us.
And many “flowers” are not flowers at all. Poinsettia is the first one that comes to mind, but there are lots of them.
but the lack of full factual disclosure is a choice
What full facts are you assuming they had? The claim that the cemetery official was having some kind of episode was made by Civitas Cheung. That is a fact. The claim that it was not the case has apparently not been made yet by anyone. Do you want the reporters to speculate about what they think really happened? I don’t.
Biden is still president. But we know what you meant.
I don’t understand why people think they should be able to vote on their special issue in this election. It’s an election for president of the US, not a referendum on Gaza. Yes, lots of us want to stop the genocide - it’s just not on this ballot.
If we elect Harris we can continue to work effectively in support of all sorts of causes. If we elect Trump it’s all over. We can continue to work, but not effectively.
