Has there been a discussions about how bad or skewed the titles are? I sympathize with the non-editorializing, but major news sources have become painfully bad at what they title. They are necessarily editorialized by their editors to the detriment of the readers.
I would suggest an allowance to at least indicate the editorializing title in the description.
Yeah, I understand the mods’ hesitance in opening that particular can of worms, but misleading and manipulative headlines are a pervasive and severe problem in major publications.
Also, little local news sites have a bad habit of writing generic headlines (e.g. saying things like “Fire in Springfield Kills 7” and assuming you know which Springfield they’re talking about, or “Johnson slams Smith” and assuming you know Smith is the mayor and Johnson is on the city council), which is a shame because occasionally there’s some excellent reporting or at least some hilarious townie drama in those stories.
It should be allowed to add context in square brackets, e.g. “Fire in Springfield [Ohio]”.

I love in a very overcrowded area. The traffic is nearly legendary, and I just saw that my hometown was chosen to have the worst traffic in the nation. I travel the East Coast a lot, and I’ve been in that DC/ Baltimore corridor during rush hour, and ours is just as bad. NYC traffic is easy. Where I live, if you aren’t home by 3 pm, then you won’t be home before 7 pm. The traffic is that bad.
But over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that traffic on the streets and in the stores is much lighter. I walked into Walmart in the middle of the day, and when I walked up to the registers, the cashiers from three registers and a few others were all just hanging out, talking. The store was nearly empty. Grocery stores have been the same way lately.
I should also say that we live in a very Hispanic area, with people from every nation in the world here. They comprise about 40% of the local population. My guess is that Hispanics just aren’t going out of the house unless they have to. They know they are being profiled by the cops, and they don’t even have to do anything wrong to get pulled over and possibly/ probably detained. Better to avoid it altogether, and stay home.
I would also imagine that every Hispanic parent is having serious talks with their children, especially if they are undocumented. The kids may be fine, having been born here, but if they get in trouble, the parents are going to come into focus, and the next thing they know, Mom & Dad are getting sent back to Honduras, and their American born and raised kids are going with them. So the word is that if you want to stay living in America with your friends and school and video games and TV shows in English, etc., you better watch yourself.
I’m guessing LA or Atlanta.
But to your point on traffic, I’ve been noticing So Cal traffic hasn’t been nearly as bad lately, particularly along the 91. This tracks, and is fucking lame. I’m all for less road congestion, but not like this.
