Young people when a game has “optional” micro transactions.
The moving color blocks don’t seem so bad now do they.
I know several boomers who have racked up thousands in credit card debt with microtransactions on “moving colorful blocks” mobile games.
Why do you think the middle agers don’t blatantly fall for the same money grubbing tactics?
Some do, but I think most remember the time before they were invented, so they have different expectations from games that make them slightly less susceptible to them.
None of the games that have mtx feel like a proper game. They all seem engineered to make you just have to buy that one thing to get past this boring part that you think is harder, but you’re just being nerfed to convince you to buy the nerf removal.
Not one of them feel like an actual challenge built to make you use strategy. They just edge you until you splooge money at them.

For my parents, it was Jewel Quest. I remember them spending most of their time at home playing that one game. It was ironic considering that my mom spent years warning us not to get addicted to videogames, lol.
Those games are engineered to be highly addictive, like casino slot machines. If we could already see the effects 30 years ago… imagine the addiction level they possess today.
Consider yourself lucky it was only Bejewelled; that they haven’t blown your entire inheritance on slot machines…[yet]
Lucky for me, nobody in my family has ever developed an addiction to gambling. My parents have always known it’s a scam that only benefits the house, and they taught us as much.
Unlucky for me, my inheritance is nonexistent anyway, because my family has always been quite poor and they’ve spent the vast majority of their life paying off the debts they’ve acquired to raise us :D
Bejeweled was cool. It was probably the biggest thing after Tetris. Then came Candy Crush with same concept…
I got crazy hours in B3 trying to be better at the fast paced ones. i pretty much had the Tetris effect with it, inadvertently thinking about it or visualizing it when i was not playing. really the perfect implementation of match 3. shame the younger generations got used to the predatory addiction based unfair gameplay of candy crush that games like bejeweled feel boring to them.
