Family and neighbors have told media outlets Maria had a restraining order against him because he allegedly had been harassing her. Her uncle posted a statement on Facebook that the driver had allegedly followed his niece to her home for months and the police were notified, but nothing was done.
Other articles have indicated that he later live-streamed a statement about the murders on his gaming stream with tens of thousands of followers. He reportedly made comments about one of the girls on his livestream, targeting her for making disrespectful comments about Charlie Kirk.
The alleged killer is the son of a police officer and related to a local police chief, which some have claimed contributed to the lack of police action against his months long stalking.
You had me on the first part, thinking you were going to suggest we should address mental health long before it gets to this point. But then you veered off. You wouldn’t need the latter if we weren’t ignoring the first part.
We need more mental health care. However, part of mental health care is caring for people who would be negatively effected by people who have [blanket term issues]. That might mean denying people like this access to the rest of humanity.
I’m sure we can figure that part out once we start working on the bigger problem overall. Maybe there will always be a handful of people that can’t be helped, but we won’t know that until we help those who can be helped.
Alas, never going to happen. This is the best it will get in our lifetime.
