They did pretty well for The Expanse and Fallout. But don’t let this get in the way of a good meme…

Just my opinion here, but I think Amazon Prime has quite a lot of good (original) content:

      The Boys is good.

The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein.

      Good Omens was very entertaining.

Not my jam, but people seem to like Clarkson’s farm.

      I also liked Invincible

The Boys gets worse with every season.

The Critical Role stuff has very little involvement on Amazons side.

Good Omens was actually good. No complaints there.

The most recent boys season was a difficult watch, but the last episode was phenomenal and so I’m a sucker and will continue watching.

The Expanse is the one show I’m impressed by

of course, they then cancelled it. and every Amazon show I’ve seen since has been shot, notably Wheel of Time and Rings of Power

SyFy cancelled The Expanse. Amazon picked it up and funded it to completion. Although only because Bezos loves the novels and was livid that StyFy got it in the first place.

as I understand it, it was cut short

“They” didnt do The Expanse. “They” bought it up after it was cancelled by syfy. “They” didnt do that well with the three seasons they had. And Fallout is a fucking mess, that no one seems to care about lore and narrative wise.

The lord of the rings and wheel of time are 100% Amazon things. Citadel is another one. And they all fucking suck.

And the showrunner of the new Stargate show, is the same guy who did the sequel series for Quantum Leap. Which was also trash.

This will be another in a long line of nerd franchises, that will be turned into putrid trash by someone who either doesnt get what made it special, or someone who wants to make it something else altogether.

Heres the check list you know its already going to have:

      Strong diverse female character lead.

LGBT focused side character for the express purpose of virtue signal instead of allowing them to be an actual character.

Strong female teal’q stand in, who is even “stronger” than Teal’q.

Bad guys will be symbolic representations of modern political pish.

Every character will speak only in Marvel style quips.

Someone is going to say “Chevron X locked” with dramatic effect… Because of course, theres going to be a new never before known Chevron that was found by strong diverse female character thats smarter than Danial Jackson…

Token white guy will be a moron or evil.

Because in modern hollywood, its message first, adventure second. They cant just create characters anymore, they create social media talking points that walk around saying social media things. Because thats what heroes do… in new hollywood. And then the audience leaves in droves, and the franchise gets shelved again only this time its got massive stain on it.

This will suck because the focus wont be on making Stargate. It will be social media pish in a Stargate wrapper.

Actually, its a mix of opinion and observation. The issue is going to be whether or not you differentiate between the issue of using “diverse” people for personal gain/social media engagement and their inclusion in media. Since its a big issue in the ongoing culture wars, Im going to guess that Im seen as a massive bigot by some section of the peanut gallery that cant think for themselves. Which is always fun.

I think when they’re still running on the “capture market share” part of thier strategy they tend to be more hands off and just let the creatives reign free. It’s when they start expecting a return on the investment that they get more hands on and turn everything to shit…

Funny how polarized the comments are.

Going by their track record, season 1 will either be quite good or really bad. There will be no in between, and I’m fine with that… best it doesn’t go on as a mediocre zombie.

Stargate was over years ago. Are they adding an interesting new element, or is this just going to be a rehash? Loved Stargate, but all good things must end.

I guess they want to insinuate that Andromeda killed Mass Effect. While Andromeda certainly got a studio killed, the game itself is actually pretty good in my opinion.

I enjoyed playing Andromeda, in fact I think gameplay-wise it’s the most fun of any mass effect. But story and character wise it was so mediocre that very shortly after finishing it I couldn’t tell you who anyone was or any of the things that happened.

It might have been better off with a different spin-off name that made it clear it was in the same universe but wasn’t really Mass Effect, because it kinda misses the mark for what those games were about.

You certainly shouldn’t make the mistake of using the default character faces. Those faces have been tarnished by the massive motion capture issues early on.

I don’t know how many people have watched SG-1 recently but my wife and I just watched the movie and the first like 8 episodes for the first time in the last two months and… It was not good. The tech made no sense, the plot often times made no sense, the characters were very 90’s television, and of course there was a lot of racial, sexism, xenophobia embedded or explicit in each episode.

I’m happy people enjoyed it in its time, and if you still watch it and like it that’s fine. But I wouldn’t recommend this show to anyone young or that I know personally cause it wasn’t good.

Stargate felt like it lacked the philosophical core that other sci-fi shows at the time (or before) had and didn’t have the sci-fi down really either. It was mostly “look at these lesser earth based cultures”, “nerds are so annoying”, “cool military guys are just built different”. Coming off of Babylon 5 which had like Worker rights episodes or nearly any season of early Star Trek, SG-1 felt hollow. I’m surprised people like Stargate as much as they do.

You could probably say the same about TNG, the first season wasn’t great. But it picks up pace and gets better and better (with a few bad episodes every now and then).

      Give it a chance.
