A few colourful bent wires and beads? I remember seeing them in a few other places too, I assume it’s the cheapest thing they can get that is reasonably hard to break and steall.

It’s definitely about the fact it’s a nice self-contained structure. The beads are locked in and can’t get lost.
This could have been a complete lie, but I was told they have those types of toys because they are easy to sanitize.
I assumed it was because it helps develop fine motor skills. Also bright colors and contrasts are a visual stimulant.
