The shooting happened after the Department of Homeland Security sent more than 2,000 ICE agents to the Twin Cities in the "largest DHS operation ever."
Start getting organized and take this to the street. Start protesting peacefully but disruptively and then (and this is the uncomfortable part) when they meet you with violence, answer with violence.
It breaks my heart too, but doing nothing will… do nothing to stop the violence that’s already all around you. From the bottom of my heart, I hope your kids can live in a better version of the USA.
I’m not going to be the European preaching what to do, but I’m still going to give you an honest answer.
Read books. If you have always heard about Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 but never read them or did so when you were a teen, now is a good time. Even if you’re not a reader, I guarantee you’ll go through them in a week.
Talk to people. Your neighbors, colleagues, people you meet at protests and demonstrations. Normalize speaking out
But most importantly and very simply, don’t give up. Learned helplessness (google the term) is being weaponized against you to keep you apathetic and discouraged. Keep hope and love - for your country, your family, yourself - alive.
The details on what practical steps to take are all in there.
First you’re European with no stake in our game. You swear at me when I asked you what your plan was. Then you tell me to read books that I read in high school and talk to my neighbors. Solid.
Buddy… Are you serious? Both on a long time scale and on a much shorter one, my life is deeply influenced by what greedy shitty little American companies and politicians do, much to my dismay. From the climate, to global warfare, to the internet and surveillance capitalism, what are you talking about? I really say this with no offense, but Americans really have a misplaced sense of what power they have. They fail to see some that they have, and presume to have some that they don’t.
You swear at me when I asked you what your plan was.
You’re right, “fuck off” was a bit strong, and I was swearing because I’m upset, but not by you, nor “at” you. I apologize, and please don’t take this personally. the message I wanted to say is don’t bring “huh so you think you know because you’re smart better and privileged?” energy, it doesn’t help anyone. It’s not about knowing the “right” thing to do, it’s about doing what we know in our heart is right. I really like the “History offers no control groups” quote, think it sums it up nicely.
Then you tell me to read books that I read in high school and talk to my neighbors. Solid.
I told you, I’m serious. If you can’t see the power of knowledge and community, I’m not sure what to tell you aside from please reconsider. Of course you can’t topple the government on your own. Learning from people who have seen and lived similar things, and talking with people that are experiencing the same thing as you, is not a dumb thing to do.
Take your weak-ass bullshit attitude somewhere else.
Oh, because you have ideas as to what to do?

I have kids. I’m not risking any sort of extra attention or violence.

If you have only giving up in your head that’s on you. Do it silently and fuck off
You seemed to have gotten angry and lashed out at me instead of answering my question.
The yes is implied. Don’t project your helplessness on others, it’s not helpful.
EDIT: I was hangry, I regret being this snarky.
I’d love to hear your plan.
