President Donald Trump repeatedly referred to Greenland as “Iceland” during his speech at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, even as he demanded that the U.S. be handed ownership of the territory. When the president initially raised Greenland, which he said he was originally “going to leave … out of the speech,” he referred to it correctly. He issued veiled threats to Denmark…

I can only imagine the bellowing ghostly laugh of Erik the Red and Leif Erikson as yet another fool falls victim to one of the best jokes in human history.

Shortly after the speech, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was already on the defense. In a post on X, she quoted News Nation reporter Libbey Dean, who pointed out that Trump mixed up the two names.

“No he didn’t, Libby[sic]. His written remarks referred to Greenland as a ‘piece of ice’ because that’s what it is. You’re the only one mixing anything up here,” Leavitt wrote, attaching a screenshot of a Google result for Greenland showing a large chunk of ice floating in the ocean.

It’s amazing how willingly they lie when the OBVIOUS TRUTH is right in front of our eyes.

Yep, it’s only a matter of time before he’ll be talking about “invading Austria where all those kangaroos and koalas live”

I watched the video and I could not help but laugh. The absolute drivel pouring from his mouth was embarrassing. What human being watched that and thought, “He nailed it.”?

Apparently my in-laws. They didn’t want to vote for Kamala because, and I almost quote, “If missiles need to be fired, she won’t do it and instead will give more money to the poor.”

I just can’t anymore. Thankfully the apple (my husband) fell faaar from the tree.

        Apparently my in-laws.

Wild guess: they’re not in the habit of watching video or reading transcript of his speeches, more than a few seconds (esp. not from Davos)?

That’s what always gets me about people who attend his rallies: listen to him rant incoherently for, idk, 45 minutes, then turn around and vote for him?

What if they just take him to Amundsen-Scott base, show him part of “The Thing” and then set off some fireworks as they evacuate him. After that we’ll all just pretend like Greenland/Iceland/Place with snow is quarantined.

I’m fairly certain he has actually been mixing them up this whole time and has meant to be claiming Iceland this entire time. A lot of his statements actually make a lot more sense if you substitute Iceland for Greenland.

Yes, because that’s the next target. You think he’s done extorting people? Even if this was a dumbass mistake, the regime will spin this to needing Iceland too.

This was my cynical mind’s first thought. If Greenland/EU/Denmark/NATO give even an inch into his demands, Iceland is next. Americans have bases there, too.

It really depends on how you lived your life. Memory starts playing tricks on you, sure, but that doesn’t mean you have to become a demanding toddler who doesn’t even know what exactly he demands.

Yep. He needs his keys taken away and placed in a home. But instead, 1/3 of our population gave him the #1 military in the world and all the nukes. Then 1/3 of the population was too lazy to NOT vote for the non-tyrannical choice. What the fuck did we do, America?!

Didn’t matter they still gave Trump sovereignty over parts of Greenland. If that’s the resistance the EU is offering, y’all are worse off than us.

      gave

No they didn’t. As the article you linked states, it’s a proposal of a “framework of a deal with NATO” - very much in the future and very much a maybe and very much the US admin’s idea.

And it concerns the military bases the US already has on Greenland, saying “parts of Greenland” is a little misleading imho.

It’s his typical artlessness of the deal: demand it all, then make concessions to make it look like giving into only one thing is a “good deal” for the other side.
By saying it’s basically a done deal you are playing into Trump’s hands.

But I will concede this point: it’s possible NATO will give in to some of his demands. Though I really hope they won’t.

Oh dear. They’re still attempting appeasement. Surely if we give him the Sudetenland military bases he’ll see that we’re being reasonable and stop there.
