The peak of a music career isn’t a Grammy, it’s getting parodied by Weird Al Yankovic

I just looked him up and he is, in fact, USian. I thought he was Canadian for some reason.

Weird Al and Dolly Parton must be protected at all costs.

it’s insane that in his decades-long career, no one has come remotely close to matching him

There are surely plenty of other people out there who have similar humor & talent & charisma & intelligence & musical panache and are able to put it all together in brilliant art, but you know how the musical industry is rigged, weird Al slipped in during the late 1970’s at a fortuitous time before the music industry became rigged & proprietary. He is indeed a national treasure.

There are billions of people all over the planet. Everyone has talents that most people will never see on a large scale via the media. Because the media is rigged & gatekeeper’ed these days.

I for one used to inadvertently entertain my family as I went about the household chores by singing well-known tunes but substituting the words for what’s going on in our daily lives and we all found it hilarious. That was kinda weird al-esque, he’s so relatable, we all have our quirks & sense of humor and he taps into something that we can all relate to.

Petition to make VPN officially an acronym for “very probably no/not/nobody/nothing”.

    Also, “programmer” humor? 🙄

I installed an optical drive in my computer recently, and I was playing with my old CDs, and found that Poodle Hat has a data partition, or whatever the hell you call them on CDs. On which is a 6 minute .mov file that takes up about an 8th of the disc’s space, in which Al thanks the owner of the disc for buying the album “instead of downloading it like some HOOLIGAN!” And then proceeds to joke over some of his own home movies.

      Data track/session is the term

If it was done in the way where the data track didn’t show up for an audio player, it was probably an Enhanced CD/CD plus. If anyone is backing up old CDs it’s worth checking for this kind of stuff and saving it too. Given most people only ever rip the audio, loads of that stuff is going to end up as lost media before long

Yeah, I agree with Weird Al, you USE the NET to find a legal way but we’ll just have to wait for Roku.
