    There were around 1.000.000 deaths for an advance of around 8 kilometers in the Battle of the Somme while at the same time the Battle of Verdun (ca. 700.000 casualties) and the Brussilow Offensive (ca. 1.600.000 casualities) happened.

    Parts of France are still uninhabitable, called the Zone Rouge, and to this year people die because of WW1.
