Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez are both officers with Customs and Border Protection, ProPublica reports
Government documents have identified the two federal officers who fatally shot Alex Pretti in Minneapolis as Jesus Ochoa, a border patrol agent, and Raymundo Gutierrez, an officer with Customs and Border Protection (CBP), according to ProPublica.
According to those records, Ochoa, 43, and Gutierrez, 35, were the agents who fired their weapons during the confrontation last weekend that resulted in Pretti’s death.
The shooting sparked widespread demonstrations and renewed demands for criminal inquiries into federal immigration enforcement actions. Immediately following Pretti’s killing, the Trump administration repeatedly pushed false claims about the shooting.
They were Mexican? Timeout. WTF!?!
Some of the most hateful racists are quite often the first (or even zeroth) generation immigrants. They have experienced enough racism that they decide they want to be on the winning side and “prove” themselves to be One Of The Good Ones. Its why a LOT of AAPI “kids” semi-jokingly say “My mother is an asian white supremacist…”. And… why so many of us have gone low, if not no, contact as adults.
And its worth remembering. You know how it feels like EVERY Irish American family have like twenty cops in them? That was a conscious effort in the late 19th/early 20th century with many of the Irish gangs effectively becoming the police unions we still know today. People often don’t realize that the Irish are “the n-words of the whites” in the US. A “good” comparison is how the Romani and Travelers are… still treated in large parts of Europe.
But if you are the child of immigrants? You learn that real fast because your parents use that as an example of “fitting in”.
All of which is to say: There is a reason only the most privileged of white folk were shocked when Male Hispanic voters made up such a large part of fuckface’s base.

Aside from that: I think there is a lot of value in understanding the demographics and the reason behind our christofacist regime. Because… only the most privileged of white folk THINK they can ignore it.
Especially when said demographics and understanding explain why two of the most famous murderers in the country AREN’T white.

If it’s not clear I’ll spell it out. Fascism has never been a movement based purely on racial lines. Fascism is and always has been a method of defense and oppression used by the capitalist class to maintain power over the working class. Racism and bigotry are only as meaningful as they can be used to maintain the current structures of power.
So, yes, people with Mexican sounding names will be recruited to as soldiers of the fascist state. Some may even lead it.
You need to dissolve your ideas of liberal identity based politics and start thinking in terms of class struggle. If you can, you’ll be much better prepared and able to understand what will unfold over the next decade of our lives.

I don’t this racism is the authentic reason for what’s happening. It’s just the tool being used by them to achieve their goal.
