Critical energy generation equipment donated by Ukraine's partners has been left idle and unconnected to the grid for years, as Russian attacks cripple the country's energy system during its coldest winter in decades.
Russia has plunged Ukraine into a catastrophic energy crisis, damaging around 8.5 gigawatts of generation capacity since October 2025 through relentless attacks on power plants, leaving citizens freezing in unheated and dark homes.

We do have some shitheads in the government and in the energy sector management, yeah. It’s not like the corruption and incompetence magically went away in 2022. This is the part that needs to change yesterday.
And that is always something I point at when some shithead goes: “Ukraine is as corrupt as Russia”, I don’t know if the depth is comparable, but Russia is not changing. Ukraine however is actively rooting out corruption, it will take another few years yes, but they’ll get there. And I for one can’t wait for the day Schengen expands eastwards and we can celebrate freedom as fellow Europeans.
