It’s deffo kinda weird when people do it. Like, I understand being frustrated and wanting to vent but there is no way any of them are going to see a lemmy comment, of all things.

I totally get being mad, and the fediverse is complicated enough and different enough from other social media experiences that I totally understand where the intuition comes from. I just want to invite people to come join us, and making the threadiverse a more friendly place to the humans that interact here is a prerequisite for me.

Just a heads’ up — I get these messages, not Hegseth.

You understand that in that context (because of how the headline is worded) the response is to Hegseth and not you, right?

When I’m replying to a headline a person posted, I’ll specifically address the person in the article by name, but I wanted to let you know that most people aren’t going to think you’re a Nazi because you’re posting a new article about a Nazi’s behavior.

Yeah, it just takes a minute to orient myself since the context I see it in is my inbox, rather than in the thread. I mostly just mean that if you want more people to post more things, making it a pleasant experience is likely to help, and spending 30 seconds trying to figure out who you pissed off and why, only to find it’s addressed at some third party is not a particularly pleasant experience. “You” in a top-level comment is inherently ambiguous — you could be addressing me (the OP), the author of the article, or the subject of the article, and it just takes a sec to figure out.

Oh is that how this works?

So, you’ll pass on the message.

This is fun, reminds me of telephone.
