The cause is money. Hippies were able to gain a ton of financial gain post 60s. Once ppl start earning they care more about their own well being than the issues of the lower class. It’s exactly why I don’t like hippies. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll are what they lived by so them becoming selfish assholes makes perfect sense where their lives where predicated on did interests
