I said people, as in people in general, like to blame others. I followed that with differences between the current state of left and right wing in the U.S. And I was sarcastic about it when I used the word “diversity” in regards to the multitude of people the right hates vs the left shitting on the elderly because shitting on anyone else will be met with a great amount of scorn.

Yes, and I pointed out that sometimes blaming others is correct, and sometimes it isn’t. You can’t just say “everyone likes to blame others” and pretend this is a useful insight.

In the context of the post that was yet another “it’s the boomers’ fault”, generalization is just fine. Nuance and Lemmy don’t get along very well. But sure, “it’s not all ___ people” works. Just don’t phrase it that way….

Yes! That’s what I’m saying! You’re literally doing the same thing, do you not realize that?

Everyone generalizes, there’s nothing particularly insightful or useful about that observation. It’s trite.

I assure you, from the perspective of the boomer blamers, everything I said is not trite. It might illuminating or it might be infuriating. But it’s something they need to hear.
