ppl in the 1820s: I lost my house, my job, and all my savings! I am going to ruin the lives of the ruling class!
why can’t people be like that now?
They’re trying in France!
why can’t people be like that now?
A historical aberration known as the middle class was intentionally developed in response to the threat of communism which developed a corresponding ideology of rugged individualism, personal responsibility, and the common self perception in the working class that they are only “temporarily embarrassed millionaires”. All in concurrence with the destruction of third spaces, unions, and communities founded upon mutual aid.
In short, we have a lot of unlearning to do.
Is the 18 a typo or is there something I don’t know here?
just trying to keep with the format. but i quickly did a web search, there were revolutions in Spain, Portugal, Greece, etc around 1820.
The Greek “revolution” was a nationalist one to win independence from the Ottoman Empire, not a class war
Now its a smartphone and a 50 sqft studio apt that’s $2500/mo. Hey at least we dont have kids to worry about like back then they would have had 17 kids to feed during the depression.
They would straight up abandon kids or sell them, lol. Straight mama bird shit
If you know you can’t feed them and someone else demonstrably can, it’s not so clear, especially if you also have several other kids you can’t feed, whom you could feed with that money (but leading with that arithmetic is definitely mama bird shit, as is abandonment).
On the other hand, we are losing our herd immunity to measles.
