last time I showed anyone was at work. one of my coworkers began sharing pictures of their trip through Europe while on vacation. it was kind of obnoxious, so I started to post the latitude and longitude of where the person standing was when the picture was taken along with gifs of Jason Bourne.
my coordinates were so accurate they accused me of somehow extracting the deleted geodata from the images.
it freaked everyone out, and nobody shared their vacation pictures with me again.
I can do it with video too. interestingly, I’ve even pinpointed locations and dates videos were recorded on based on what what playing on the TV or radio in the background.
the point I always try to make to people is that if I can do it, DOHS has been able to do it for even longer.
I’ve done this before when people have shared pictures on the internet. Usually harmlessly just to warn them that they accidentally doxxed themselves, but sometimes they get really upset by it.
I also got on an episode of podcast Endless Threads because of something I did on Reddit. Turns out my geolocation was wrong and it caused a whole big drama for the landowner and the podcasters lost in Ohio or something, but later I found the real location while they were on the hunt. Meanwhile I was in Australia.
I’ve done that before on Reddit. I frequent some of the NSFW subreddits and sometimes they post a picture with a work name-badge in the background which has alot of information on it.
I stopped doing it after my account was banned. now I just report the posts for doxxing and let the mods sort it out.
