Honestly I even get rid of the taskbar too. I’ll float the system tray at approximately the same place but either let it hide behind everything or fill the space above it with a specific window (mirrored phone screen) with fixed size. Now that I’m typing it out though, I’m going to investigate auto-hiding it until a keybind reveals it in front of all windows.

I switch programs exclusively with alt+tab regardless and KDE’s launcher fulfills the super-menu functionality. I want a fresh session login to open to just my wallpaper. No icons, no task bar, no tray, nothing. An anti-rizz if you will.

I like the aesthetic and see it as a (tongue-in-cheek) method of security by obfuscation. I pair that with completely blank keycaps on my keyboard and suddenly 99% of the population doesn’t know how to interact with my machine.

I have never paid to stream music. I grew up with dial-up and terrible cell reception making torrenting a chore (shout-out leaving Limewire up overnight for one song) and streaming a total non-starter. In high school I checked out stacks and stacks of CDs from the library to rip onto my computer.

With the help of better internet I was able to access torrenting and luckily my special interest in the metal genre kept me off the ISP radar though I use a VPN nowadays. You may be able to find a tracker specialized in a specific music taste - depending on your attitude towards torrenting. I do my best to recompense the bands via merch (especially vinyl) and concert ticket sales.

Hell yeah, sounds like a plan. Have you run into any compatibility issues? I’ve read that bank apps can have issues and my CU is unlikely to work. I tried setting their website up as a PWA but ran into VPN-related issues. Will do research myself but if you/another commenter has insight I’d appreciate it!

I found the individual pieces through my research earlier this year. Laying it out for me plainly really helps and has me revisiting the idea. I think I stumbled after learning about the need for enough funding to self-support? I’ll look into it more.

Thank you for the assistance! From my earlier research I do hold a qualifying engineering degree. I’m also interested in studying for a Masters or potentially PhD at Göthenburg, but frankly will accept any path to legally move and work somewhere that isn’t the US. The EU in general and Sweden or Germany in particular have been my focus thus far and I sincerely appreciate a new route to investigate.
