The NAS itself probably takes most of the power, which isnt logged. My server is a Raspberry Pi 5, so used 1.86kWh in September.

Not as of a few weeks ago
It needs to be Android with Google Play Services for the registration for a variety of payment related reasons, but they want to eventually remove that tie

That looks very cool and maybe worth porting what I currently do — I just run a super simple template and each recipe is its own include file, with an auto generating index.
Even if the hosting dies the recipes are easy to read on github, and the network availability makes shopping easy if I decide I want to get ingredients for it at a store, or to share.

I’m not worried about some nebulous theft; the not sharing of a card number with a merchant is what I’m referring to.

Thanks! That’s an important consideration that I hadn’t run across.

I don’t use a phone case and it’s less secure besides.

It’s tap to pay (or use the public transit) that’s keeping me back.

Why Molly over the official client, may I ask? The official client is already OSS.

I only read about that today, so I hadn’t even considered that angle. They’re doing some cool stuff in that space. jeff is the self-hostable one that does best as far as I know.

Both are reasonable, though I understand why Google is pushing back against it.
The assistant angle simply is saying that they have to expose APIs that they are already using and that they can’t lock away those features, especially on an open-source operating system.
On the second point, it’s just mitigating the first-mover advantage — just because Google existed before something else, potentially before an inventor-of-a-competitor was even born, doesn’t mean that they should be immune to competitive pressure.

I’m almost there.
I also live in the Bay Area. My rent is locally cheap but nationally very high. My wife has a chronic illness and an unrelated acute issue that recently required surgery. She can barely work. Until this most recent surgery I was keeping ahead, but expenses are up and income is down and that’s not true anymore.
I have good health insurance but there’s a lot more to medical costs than just doctors, and to partially manage her daily quality of life it’s not weird to cook her three different dinners and she can only stomach one. This explodes our meal budget.
We’re childfree but one of our dogs recently also got diagnosed with chronic illness. They are our kids, full stop.
Shit happens. Don’t be a dick about it.

As an elected government, it’s a synonym for “most of Palestine”. AFAIK it’s direct representation with no gerrymandering fuckery like the states to make it only questionably true.

This is questionably accurate.
It’s not just a matter of building the rail, it’s also redesigning the urban sprawl. That’s a LOT of new construction of buildings needed, too. That comes with new utilities, etc. And cement is a huge carbon source.
There is a time scale over which that’s more carbon efficient than replacing all personal vehicles and their replacement lifecycles, but it’s very unclear if that’s actually faster with regards to climate change timelines.
Spoiler alert, everything involves politics, and if you don’t get that, then you’re just getting screwed over by those that do.

Arguable. The stories have him talk about the right price and your rights with slaves, and as commonly understood “not one jot or tittle” would directly conflict with “let he who…”, unless the second is an edict (“hey, you, sinless one, go chuck a rock at them and bludgeon then go death”).
Where the bible isn’t monstrous, it’s at best inconsistent.

Definitely betting one life vs. maybe betting several. It’s a version of the trolley problem. There isn’t a right answer, unfortunately - though I personally would move the kid to professional full time psychiatric care in a “hope for the best, plan for the worst” sort of thing. Especially since I don’t think kids are inherently more valuable than adults.

I rolled my own Infinity for Reddit after the Great API block. It’s so inferior to Sync.

Same UI! I love it
I got permanently suspended for unauthorized activity but I’ve only ever browsed and commented.
And no one stole my 30 random character password with zero cross site duplication, either.
