U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday delayed his new 25% tariffs on most Mexican exports to the United States for four weeks after hearing directly from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on how her government had helped curb the flow of migrants and the deadly opioid fentanyl into the United States.

    Foolish bully.

If you accept his shit he will try and get away with more.

The people most at risk from this moron are the American people themselves. They appear to be accepting most of it. They didn’t lock him up, instead they voted him into power.

(Sorry Americans, I don’t want to be inflammatory for the sake of it. I do like those of you I have known irl.)

Even if the vote was not tampered with, only 22% of the US population voted for him. The majority don’t want him, and even those that voted for him are quickly realizing the mistakes they made.

The problem now, is the country doesn’t really have a playbook for how to deal with this. Impeachment is meaningless as the DoJ Senate has to actually press charges and never has. The Supreme Court is a useless pile of corrupt shit. We’ve not degraded far enough yet for the military to justify removing him from power, which I don’t believe has ever been tested before.

Couple that with a tepid Democratic party that thinks if they just sit there in pink and hold up signs, somehow some magic law faerie will come down and fix things instead of taking any kind of action. It’s a cocktail of fail.

The one thing that orange bloated idiot does well, is do things that are off-script.

Individual citizen protest is made difficult by the sheer size of the country and that everyone’s healthcare is bound to employment.

Edit: Said DoJ but should have said Senate. My bad. Thanks @Zaktor@sopuli.xyz.

Impeachment doesn’t require the DOJ. We would Just need the house to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Regardless the house is mainly controlled by Rs so I doubt they would impeach, and the Senate is also Republican controlled meaning Trump wouldn’t even be removed if he was impeached

Yeah I said in another post that the Americans I have known irl have been great. I love America’s contribution to stuff like music and literature, and the arts generally. And I take your point it is a minority.

But this oligarchy has taken a while to build but it wasn’t stopped. And I do think this is a watershed moment for the US and Europe, BRICS and the dollar. I think we are entering a global economy that reflects the multi-polar world we actually have.

As a Brit, whose economy is 50 - 100 years past being the global reserve currency, I think the people most likely to suffer over the long term are Americans, after everyone suffers the coming short-term instability.

This total breakdown in cooperation happening just as we roll straight past climate change’s last chance saloon (to butcher a couple of metaphors) is an even bigger disaster. Some of us ‘doomers’ are being proven right. I’d rather not be.

IMO I can only assume trump is setting up for rich stock traders… basically to have pump and dump wavey markets.

By threatening total economic collapse… postponing it at the last second. It’s literally making the stock market a roller coaster. of which it will rise somewhat when postponed, fall when the date gets close… people could make a killing buying at the bottoms and selling at the ups.

Just remember it’s all about fentanyl being smuggled in. Canada’s contribution was 43 lbs and mexico’s was 21,000

I mean Trump backed down from Mexico upon the mere threat of retaliation to come on Sunday. Sheinbaum is stronger than Trump the felonious con artist could ever be.

It’s far from over, because it appears to me that Canadian and Mexican governments are both aiming for a more permanent resolution. I think they should stay closely co-ordinated. In the meantime…

¡Que Viva La Presidenta! ¡Que Viva México!

Not gonna engage with the other person who replied to you, but I hope you get your own conclusions about disappeared people in Mexico. A similar argument was made during the first years of President Lopez Obrador mandate about homicides. The right-wing regime before Lopez left a horrifying situation in that regard with homicides rising, Lopez could stop the trend and stabilize the absolute amount of homicides per year during the first half of his period. Of course, the “argument” from the opposition to his government was that “the most violent years in Mexico’s history” occurred during his mandate and they also like to brag about it being the most violent period in history, which is technically true.

Lopez did change the trend in his last three years of government. Sheinbaum, also a leftist, continues getting better and better numbers in homicides in general in her first months as president. There are cities where things are not fine or not even getting better, of course, because it’s not a uniform trend.

The opposition is now shifting to disappeared people, as it is loosing the discussion about homicides. Disappeared people is an issue in Mexico too, but it’s even more complicated as the right-wing government before Lopez was one of the main perpetrators of this crime. A long, atrocious chapter of disappeared people is called here the Dirty War. In this period (for the Spanish version of the Wikipedia it’s 1964-2000), the right-wing government would prosecute, kidnap, assassinate and disappear political dissidents. Currently, disappearance of people is related mostly to organized crime, which, of course needs to be addressed.

One can wish for the best for Mexico while being aware of its history and issues it continues to face. But the fact that Mexican residents appear to be trusting President Sheinbaum to take real action to solve them, and as a person and leader she seems very capable of doing that to the extent of her governmental authority.

I do think Lopez Obrador and Sheinbaum’s policy of frequent mañaneras and answering reporters is great for governmental transparency, even if it will be characterized as daily propaganda.

¡Que viva el mayor número de personas desaparecidas en la historia del país 2 años seguidos!
