    NBC has live updates.

The two people who died in the Cour d’Alene shooting are both firefighters, said Edward Kelly, the president of the International Association of Firefighters.

A third firefighter is in surgery, Kelly said. “Two of our brothers were killed by a sniper, and a third brother remains in surgery,” he wrote on X.

The condition of the third firefighter and the nature of his injuries were not immediately clear.

The union president said the firefighters were “ambushed in a heinous act of violence.”

So what’ll the reasoning end up being here? Arsonist protecting their own handiwork? Brain damaged older gentleman fending off “trespassers?”

I’ve been punched by the arsonist before. Granted she was 70 and ran back into the bldg. I donned my mask and pulled her out. She spent some necessary time in a facility after that - mental kind I think. Anyway, it was kind of hilarious in my case.

Is this a trend? There’s been a few of these, although not this severe. It’s like it’s a tiktok challenge. Fires happening and the firefighters get there and someone pulls a gun on them.

there’s been so much arson too.

No TikTok doesn’t encourage gun violence because the law suit that would follow would kill their profit.

I just happened to watch a crime video about a kid that shot and killed a random 18yo kid for a tiktok stream.

        https://youtu.be/hh3tq-P8epQ

In my original post I wasn’t trying to imply it was a literal tiktok trend. Honestly I don’t know why I brought up tiktok at all.

Are we seeing AFAB also now?

Those damned firefighters saving kittens and ensuring public safety. Who do they think they are rescuing people like that??

I hope not. As a firefighter I spend a lot of time with the public showing them we are not cops and I spend a lot of time reminding cops they are not necessary at my scenes. Our city’s FD is, for the largest part, not at all friends with the cops.

FWIW, firefighters’ve been heroes down through history — and are the inspiration/origin of the ninja clan (legend?) in ancient Japan for the signature precision of their ladder teams, public service, and indefatigable integrity, etc.

Thank you all, genuinely, for your service. 🙇🏼‍♂️✊🏼

This is a real issue. Firefighters rule but there are way more shitty people than you’d expect. Had a friend who was an EMT till he gave it up and moved away bc he couldn’t stand the other responders.

for real. i have a hard enough time as an open leftist but i have found most are influenced by rhetoric that calls out horseshit like “that punisher logo - do you know the real story? you prob shouldn’t wear that? ohh don’t tread on me? who do you think does the treading?” etc.

takes a while but they are weak and easy to wear down especially if you are also actively showing them the positive side of your attitude toward life in the community
