It is telling that, apparently, state Rep. Nicole Collier is the only Democrat who refused to sign “a permission slip to be under escort by the Texas Department of Public Safety.” So, count 'em, one Democrat had the courage to say no.
I find it more likely they drew straws. You only need one to do this to prove the point.

That doesn’t really paint a clear picture. Department of Public Safety is doing the detaining and “Republicans” is fairly nebulous. What law gives the Department of Public Safety the right to force Texas state representatives to accept a police escort? What about detaining them in the congressional building? Who said she could sleep in her office? On who’s authority?
Probably the worst thing about social Internets is how lazy they make people. “Find my answer so I can debate you about it!” Why not go out and get your answer and report back? (It doesn’t help that CBS was the cited source, which now is a known Nazi sympathizer.)
Texas is the redheaded stepchild of US states with all the Nazis moving in over the last decade to shift them from purple to red/Nazi. The governor is on a power trip and they really want to be the example of how to destroy America nationwide. Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely and all.
If still too lazy to do the research, the short answer is Texas has a law that lets the state government send the Sergeant at Arms after congress members that won’t show up for quorum, (they also get fined $500/day) and that can include deputizing police/etc. and doesn’t really have guard rails on it to protect against asinine behavior. Members of their congress have used abandonment in previous decades as their only form of protest to stop unjust laws from being pushed through as that state speedruns rotting from the inside.

Sounds like she and her colleagues got what they wanted out of the situation so what’s the problem? They came back to give the Republicans the quorum that they need to pass the redistricting after putting on a good show to keep up the kayfabe. If she really wanted out she could just pull the fire alarm or have one of her aides let her out.
