AP itself is quite trustworthy IMO, but the sources themselves often aren’t - AP reports what it finds out, but they get their data from police, FBI, etc - not a single link in the chain is infallible, which is why it’s best to wait till a bit more is known.

With the Kirk shooter, first he was trans, then he was a groyper, and then later on it turned out he has a trans girlfriend and he was sick of the hate Kirk was spewing. Hell, maybe even THAT isn’t the final version.
