Global electricity prices in Europe (short of France that is self reliant with nuclear reactors) have gone up dramatically since the gas stopped flowing from Russia.

In 2022, the pricing of 1 kWh in residential areas in Germany are 0.6 USD. That’s 3 times the US if I’m not mistaken.

Shit indeed. The thing that was going to supplement renewable energy to stave off climate change becoming less and less effective and safe because of climate change is one of the cruelest cases of tragic irony ever!

Maybe desalination at the cost of reduced energy output should be considered, or desalination in general. Even if the weather stabilizes, having those around on low maintenance wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Only problem is, it will take around 3-5 years to build, probably.

Last year I could have bought a new PS5 every month for the cost of electricity. Things have settled now but it’s still expensive - I switched a lot of my personal infra to the cloud and Intel NUCs to cut down the cost 😭

IMO If people want to post hard political material on a mainstream meme community, I wish they would make a minimum effort to make it relatable to those outside of the various originator echo chamber communities.

The constant “US Bad” “China Bad” and adjacent topics targeting a specific political audience gets annoying with how repetitive it is - if it’s not politics related to my region OR suggesting ways I can improve things, I could not honestly give a bigger dump

The internet IS very US-centric, so this is kinda true, but it’s also very easy to abuse and bore people out. I’m Honduran and I know more about US Politics than about my country’s own politics. I know more about US politics than I do about every other country. This is not a flex, it’s a fucking burden on my mind and mental health.

I kinda liked how Lemmy wasn’t too US-centric at first, but I’m feeling similar levels of burnout from Lemmy as I did from Reddit, which was mostly due to how much US shit was posted there just about everywhere.

I dunno where you’re from but as a Canadian I’m dismayed when Canadians say they don’t care about u.s politics. Considering u.s politics influence our every day life just as much as the politics of our own Parliament. Anyone who has been to a major Canadian city and has seen Canadian idiots with the same Maga mentality, will tell you that u.s politics is a huge part of our life

I somewhat agree, but for my own mental health I’ve had to try and avoid it if I can. I still stay informed, I just don’t want US politics in every area of my life. I probably agree with most people on this site politically, I just don’t want to be so involved in that mind space all the time.

It also feels very US-defaultism to put US memes here all the time. Sure, most people here are probably American, but not everyone is.

I find it quite difficult to block only US politics due to how it’s the “default” so people rarely specify it’s the US. It also just tends to be constant work as new scandals and stuff pop up.

If anyone has some good filters please let me know.

          Ya that’s called usdefaultism.

That’s why I no longer specify which unit of measurement I am talking about anymore. It’s funny to watch Americans tell me I’m wrong.

“Ya that costs like 30 bucks” and they come screaming about how I’m getting scammed because it’s only $20. Meanwhile I’m talking about CAD, not USD.

Or when I’m talking about temperature, cities, etc.

Exactly. We complainers aren’t saying they can’t post about politics, just requesting they post their political memes in the designated political meme space.

EDIT: A message to people from Hexbear

Thank you for your input, but I stopped responding to arguments here at least 24 hours ago because I can’t juggle that many conversations at once. I would ask that you respect that and not continue to argue with me about what is and isn’t political, because I’m just going to ignore it anyways. Thank you.

It’s ok that this has a place here. But we need more than this.

Want some hard truths? Blinders off, reddit is still a much better place for content than Lemmy.

Honestly I’m getting tired of it.

Edit - I feel the need to say that there is actually one consistent thing on Lemmy that is fantastic - rpgmemes, specifically the ongoing series about a goblin high priestess playing dnd.

Stuff that brings me joy. Posting left wing political shit on lemmy is like, the epitome of preaching to the choir. Every time I see some unnecessary political take that everyone here agrees with anyway, like there’s always that one person in any thread that has to bring politics into things and I’m just like nope, I’m out. Got better things to do than have my mood ruined by thinking about the worst parts of life. Its like you people are intentionally trying to make everyone miserable.

Almost all the memes I have saved are pretty much void of any real statement or opinion, except maybe “this is humorously absurd”. Unfortunately they’re all images and I don’t want to go to the trouble of transcribing them

In general if something appears to he trying to sway or convince me toward something, it isn’t a meme, it’s a political cartoon or an advertisement, even if it’s trying to be humorous.

It’s about not posting shit tier “memes”. And yes I must use the quotes because many of you people don’t actually know what a meme is and have taken the boomer Facebook approach off putting shitty text over a picture and calling it a day.
