Can. But shouldn’t.
Pre-ordering games encourages publishers to release buggy, unoptimized, incomplete, garbage.
And, since there’s no scarcity, the assurance you might get from pre-ordering physical goods doesn’t exist here.
Please don’t do it.
I have been saying this for years.
If a games has is a particulary annoying preorder campaign I sometimes post a thread in their Steam community simple titled “Don’t preorder video games”. It always gets some interesting responses.
Never pre-order.
I would normally make an exception for indie games when it comes to never pre-ordering games but not here. The development of this was so shaky (if not flat out shady) that I recommend to wait until it‘s actually there and user reviews are flocking in.
I was excited about this project years ago but I am very skeptical of this ever going anywhere after they seemingly made no progress for years doing endless engine reworks before now seemingly giving up on those reworks and returning to their legacy engine?
I’ve been instead enjoying Vintage Story and it’s modding community.
Likewise, the game has lots of depth and mostly satisfying mechanics. Combat is a bit wonky but the creative tools (sub-voxel chiseling and combining block materials) within the game are where it shines. The game structure is built on modding as the main game content and scripts are themselves mods!
I watched the gameplay trailer when it came out and I can’t say it was particularly invigorating. It was mostly endlessly slash at zombies then endlessly slash skeletons.
Doesn’t exactly scream deep combat mechanics.
