Tiktok US deal; this is just for the US users. Tiktok global doesn’t change.

Essentially the US just siloed all the US users together and cut them off from the rest of the world and they’re about to find out just how little of the US were on Tiktok.

Of course it is a shitty and shady deal. What did you expect from a government-backed deal?

What MySpace and other social content networks taught us was that most of the value was when young people treated them as outlets for self-expression. That’s what made those places new and cool. Once the sites got corporatized, they gradually degraded into irrelevance.

    Guess we’ll see.

Republicans obviously take majority responsibility for this turd of a deal and the corrupt shifting of TikTok ownership to Trump’s buddies. But it can’t be overstated what an own-goal supporting this whole dumb thing was for Democrats, who not only helped Trump’s friends steal partial ownership of TikTok, they saber-rattled over a ban during an election season where they desperately needed young people to vote.

As I’ve spent years arguing, if these folks were all so concerned about U.S. consumer privacy, they should have passed a functional modern internet privacy law applying to all U.S. companies and their executives.

Maybe this shitslurry of a deal will stain the platform with enough GOP stink that even the most brainrotted kids will leave it behind for less foul smelling alternatives

They won’t, they’re addicted (I say this as a sporadic TT user). Look at how shit FB has gotten, yet people still hang around. Tiktok’s algo is 100x more addictive.

The only positive for TT for me personally was that the bot problem wasn’t as bad on it compared to other social media. I bet that will change pretty quickly.

Xitter had a very sharp worsening as a platform, and yet, somehow, still remains very relevant.

Didn’t over half the real users leave? Feels like it’s basically a handful of nazis, many nazi bots, and a few media people for businesses.

Everyone just looked the other way while Trump and his cronies repeatedly ignored deadlines and hammered away at the transfer.

I’m so tired of this blatant corruption.

Oh this is going to do nothing to make TikTok better in any way, or cause it’s downfall.

It just lets Trump’s friends make money from it now.
