My six-year-old asked me how we walk and as I was trying to tell him a literal simple explanation of how our brain tells our muscles to move and lift our leg etc. he lifts his knee and as soon as I see his pose it hits me like HEY there’s a game that is about exactly this. QWOP!

Ah ladies and gentleman, take a trip down memory lane to the absurdity and inanity of trying to get your able-bodied runner down the track in his quest for the 100m. My personal best is… 3.7m and I consider that a feat! Ah this game is the best of the Internet.

I’m now older than both my parents were when I was born. The complaining about the lack of grandchildren has already started.

Is not in is it? Society won’t let me stay up and play Xbox until midnight anymore, I’m expected to go to work in the morning.

Wait… GIRP is finishable?! I assumed it was infinitely generated because I’m terrible at it and didn’t get anywhere near the end! Aw I might play it at lunch tomorrow :)

Yes it sure is! There is an asshole bird that tries to mess you up, and the last few handholds are a challenge, but there is a prize at the end :)

I would also love to point out that KLOP is the horse version and it’s really something.

But my favorite Foddy game has always been GIRP, which is a climbing game that’ll test your keyboard :3

Always loved Bennett Foddy’s games. I played this so much back when I was a kid like 15 years ago that I actually figured out how to do it. My strat still isn’t exactly easy, but with a little practice you’ll be able to actually beat the game as I’ve done before, even getting past that nasty surprise at 50m. I just broke it out for the first time in years and it was almost like riding a bike, no joke. Within a few minutes, I was almost hitting 15m. The key is to more or less always control two keys together; you’ll probably only pull off finer single-key adjustments when you actually get a feel for the controls. Getting a feel for the timing and how much to push the buttons is also important. Some other tips are not to allow your knees to get too high, try gradually completing strides in short stuttery presses to prevent flipping backwards, and momentum is key.

To start, briefly tap W and O simultaneously. This is to get the character to put a foot out and lean over it, setting up the next stride.

Then, a slightly longer press of Q and P simultaneously. The runner will extend his other foot much like real runner.

After that, you’ll go back to W/O and begin cycling between that and Q/P. That’s pretty much all there is to it as far as the control scheme goes. That will at least have your runner looking a lot more coordinated than attempting to scoot across the ground or whatever.

Foddy’s most recent game, Baby Steps, is getting good reviews. I’ve not played it myself, but it’s a 3D game in the same genre; you’re a very unfit basement-dwelling 30-something who gets teleported (in your onesie) to the wilderness, and you’re trying to manage your balance as you make your way to a mountain.

Just watched a trailer for it. Might have to grab it. Looks like he teamed up with the Ape Out devs?? Nice.

Watching someone play qwop for the first time is one of the finer joys in life. I’ve had so many belly laughs thanks to this game.

I think I got to 40m, but it took ages.
