Donald Trump on Monday, January 19 threatened 200% tariffs on French wine and champagne over France’s intentions to decline the US leader’s invitation to join his “board of peace.” The board was originally conceived to oversee the rebuilding of war-torn Gaza, but the charter does not appear to limit its role to the occupied Palestinian territory.

“I’ll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes. And he’ll join. But he doesn’t have to join,” Trump said, referring to French President Emmanuel Macron. A source close to Macron told AFP on Monday that France “does not intend to answer favorably” to the invitation.

The board’s charter “goes beyond the sole framework of Gaza,” the source close to the French president said.

So when are we tariffing the shit out of US products?

I’m sure every business in Europe suddenly having to pay 200% extra for Office 365 and mail handling will send them scrambling for a European alternative.

And they won’t go back once they’ve moved.

A peace board to which he invited Putin? No thanks, any halfway decent politician should keep away from this.

That’s just the icing on top. I assume that money is supposed to go straight into Trumps pocket, too, and will not be used to finance that thing, or, heaven forbid, rescue, heal, feed, or house the victims.

Gonna be the saddest shit ever if the EU placates this dementia-ridden chucklefuck. I’m hoping they can figure out a long-term viable economic plan that cuts out the US but I’m not all that hopeful they won’t just appease him to maintain the status quo.

They really, really need to prioritize separating themselves from dependence on American tech companies and payment processors. That has to be accomplished to shield themselves.

Then they can and should embargo us and seize American assets until we get in line. After which they can resume trade, but keep the assets of the American oligarchs who have refused to defy the fascists.

Friendly reminder from your neighbor who is clinging to the railing of the sinking ship…

You are also in a ship held afloat by the whims of capital. Make sure what’s happening to us doesn’t happen to you. Get involved with your community, make sure the wealthy are kept in check, keep your media free.

It’s a lost cause, this infection will spread as long as money exists, but you can slow it down long enough that a new generation of leadership may come into power who have more experience and knowledge how to protect us from the Kayfabe future of manufactured drama meant to drive prices.
