Dual UK/US citizen here . . . living in the Scottish highlands. Hate to break it to you mate, but Brits do not think about this. Ever. 1/3 of the countries on Earth celebrate their independence day as being independent FROM England. The US just isn’t that special.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_that_have_gained_independence_from_the_United_Kingdom

PS. I personally spend quite a bit of time working to add Scotland to that list!

I hate to break it to you but it might not be about Britain.

One could understand it as, for Americans it is the day they celebrate their “freedom” and now… are they free? Will they wish for independence of Republican states?

I’m sure that England has been glad to be rid of us for quite some time. We haven’t been very good allies in my lifetime, let alone before that.

I’m also equally sure plenty of Americans today would rather be somewhere in the UK.

Post WW2 America has dragged us into far more conflict than we should have been part of. I think the only conflict the UK has entered of it’s own accord is the Falklands war. Other than that it’s been UN peacekeeping forces, NATO operations, or (and these are the problem ones) trying to make US operations not look unilateral (e.g. Iraq 1 & 2).

They’ve also made sure all our innovation goes to them first.

Now I’m sure there have been benefits to having the US in our corner, but I think we’ve been exploited in a lot of ways for the sake of the “special relationship”.

  • That is a great question,

Easy you would say Caucasian USAns should be from Caucasian Englanders, but look at what each country has become. I who much rather be prefer to have earned our independence from post 1970s’ Denmark, or another Scandinavian Country.

Obviously The Indigenous & Black Peoples of USA are not, the way The Indigenous people were forced by The USA into new form of their nations & The Original Black USAn People stolen/forced from original Black Indigenous Countries.

Every 4th of July ‘Democracy Now’ does an awesome episode on “Where is my” Boack People’s “4th July” speech Federick Douglas.

I mean, Truth Social is just mastodon defederated from everyone else. You could stand up an instance of Lemmy, ban all the Americans and defederate from every instance that has Americans on it; no-one can stop you.
