After they fired him, and told him to take a commercial flight home:

The personnel action was reversed, though, when it was determined that no other pilot was immediately available to operate the aircraft for the return flight.

A DHS spokeswoman did not address the specific episode but said Kristi Noem has made personnel decisions intended “to deliver excellence.”

So they fired the guy, kicked him out, and then had to go get him back because they had forgotten that someone had to fly them home.

Can you imagine that guy, stalking through the airport toward the Southwest desk to buy a ticket home with his own money, muttering angrily under his breath, when a bunch of ICE Apes roll up on him, and demand he return.

    “Why?”

“You have to fly the plane home.”

“I’m fired, remember? Go find someone else.”

    “There isn’t anyone else.”

“It’s an airport, there are pilots everywhere, kidnap one, and force him to fly her.”

“You’re coming with us, that’s an order!”

“I’m fired, I don’t take orders from anyone. And even when I wasn’t fired, I didn’t take orders from YOU.”

“If you’re looking for some trouble, you’re going to find some trouble,” and they all took a step closer, and slightly raised their weapons.

The pilot, trained to keep his head under extreme stress, didn’t flinch, and said “Listen, boys, this is an easy problem to fix. If you want me to fly that plane so badly - make me an offer.”

    “Huh?”

    “Make. Me. An. Offer.”

    “An offer?”

“Did you hit your head? Go ask your boss how much it’s worth to her for me to enthusiastically fly her plane, or else I can fly my LAST flight as an unemployed, suicidal pilot, flying the psychopath who is FORCING me to work, like a slave. You go ask her what she’ll pay “to deliver excellence.””

    [slightly rearranged]:

a maintenance issue required a change of planes. [Noem’s] personal blanket was not transferred [to the new plane].

How about you be responsible for your own fucking shit, Noem? What about “personal responsibility”? The pilot is there to fly the fucking plane, not be your personal body-slave.

I’m having grave and serious flashback of Mike matei and his interpretation of elmo and his lost blanket. The edgiest most embarassing thing online up to this day. If you don’t know what is this, maybe you also shouldn’t look for it, it’s tremendously stupid.

I would have just said no, but I don’t know if military can do that:

“The personnel action was reversed, though, when it was determined that no other pilot was immediately available to operate the aircraft for the return flight.”

so basically she told him he was fired then realized pilots don’t grow on trees and immediately reversed it?

I imagine that would be a career-limiting decision for a military pilot.

If he instead acts “professionally”, which means putting up with her bullshit for the rest of the day, then he has a decent chance of getting quickly reassigned to a role where he doesn’t have to deal with her again.

reassigned to a role where he doesn’t have to deal with her again.

Which , I’m sure, would make him very happy.

Makes me wonder if blanket transfer is on the checklist. I know pilots rely a lot of checklists, so if it wasn’t on the list, then the checklist maker is the one at fault and should immediately self-report to Leavenworth to await general court martial and inevitable incarceration.

Unfair to Linus, who is a kind and caring individual. For instance young Snoopy often stole his blanket and he never shot the puppy.

Holy fuck there is no blanket I have ever traveled with that I would fire someone over. You expect to lose/spill/damage travel blankets. Anyone who spends that much on makeup alone has no excuse to lash out over a blanket. All those detainees not getting blankets would like a word, lady.

Finally they’re doing something about the corruption in the Coast Guard!
