By the same logic, Nintendo isn’t entitled to a refund because they got what they paid for.
Imagine the court to dismiss the lawsuit, and then use their decision as evidence for refusing USA to pay tariff refunds to Nintendo.
Ferengi rules of acquisition.
- Once you have their money, you never give it back.
Time to tell the crackheads that Nintendo HQ is made entirely of copper and catalytic converters.
Ok well I am never buying another Nintendo product again. Fuck them.
Second hand market doesn’t financially support them. You can have your cake and eat it too.
A glorious suggestion! I love it.
This has been the true face of Nintendo all along…

By their own logic, they don’t have a right to tariff refunds either.
They want to eat their cake, and have it to. Will capitalism benefit the capitalists like it does 99.99% of the time? You bet your sweet ass it will!
99.99% of the time, it works every time!
I’m reminded of how Disney pulled most of their movie ideas from the public domain, and then pushed hard to try to extend copyright so that none of their movies would ever enter the public domain themselves.
Board the ship, then pull up the ladder
I hate comments like this. Nintendo paid an illegal tax, so they deserve a refund. Consumers got screwed by their government, not Nintendo.
Also, if you think the tariffs, AI, threat of more tariffs, Iran war, etc. haven’t increases the cost of operations for businesses then you’re not paying attention to current events.
I hate comments like this. Mega corps do not need you to defend them. Fuck them. They can afford to give some of that money back.
I’m not defending anyone, just explaining how the law is working in this scenario as people seems to have lost the ability to understand simple taxes (tariffs).
Nintendo has become an awful company.
Stop supporting them.
My mother bought me an NES when I was a child, and shortly after Nintendo lowered the price and they voluntarily refunded her the difference.
She told me years later that secured her as a Nintendo customer for my games for life.
This greed is disgusting, but more than anything it’s depressing.
i think you mean the store she bought it from refunded you the difference.
many retail outlets have 30 day price guarantees, sometimes 90.
Nobody was buying NES systems direct from Nintendo.
Nintendo offered mail in rebates with proof of purchase back in the day. I have no idea if that applied to OPs story but it wasn’t the store offering the rebate in these cases
back then they did, I doubt any have it now.
Hell, walmart wont even price match its own website… and like or hate walmart, thats the cheapest place in town to get shit so thats where most people, especially in this economy, will be shoppin.
Not only that, walmart won’t even do price adjustments anymore. they got rid of that about 3 or 4 years ago.
It used to be if you bought an item and the price fell within 14 days of purchase you could do a price adjustment on it. Now if you give the reason it’s cheaper as a reason for the return, they will refuse to do the exchange full stop.
it’s stupid because their return policy is still 90 days on most items, so you can just… return the item as a change mind, and then go and buy a brand new unopened one off the shelf for the reduced price… so not only are they out the money anyway but they also now have to sell or claims out a used product and are down a new unopened product ontop of it.
Amazon doesn’t do it anymore either, they used to offer price adjustments on anything within 30 days of purchase as long as you contact customer support. Now they force you to return the item and buy it again.
it’s not super common but a couple times a year i will buy something and the price drops a week or two later and you can contact them to get a gift card for the difference. you aren’t going to get in in cash or credit in 2026 though. it’s 30 days from date of purchase for all the places i have done this for.
Just got a statement credit on a CC for a tv bought from Best buy. July 4th sale…30 day price match against themselves
giftcards arent refunds.
They are a marketing ploy to get you to come back and spend more money.
Yep. I’m just an idiot. It’s not like I’ll go back to the store ever again and I’m a regular customer.
They are clearly ENTRAPPING ME. Just like all the times I returned a product and they gave me a full refund, that was also total entrapment. Or when I returned a product for a warrenty fufillment and they replaced it, also entrapment.
He’s out of line, but he’s got a point
what point is that? that companies are evil if they give you refunds in gift cards?
am i also evil when I get my nephews gift cards for christmas? because i’m restricting their consumer choice!
because 12 year olds care about what store they buy games from…
Sure buddy.
I was like, 5 when it happened, so I’ve never confirmed it, and my mother is definitely the kind of person who would misremember this kind of thing, but from what she claims she called them directly because they dropped the MSRP, not just a store price drop.
Take it with a grain of salt though.
Sorry your mom’s greedy Nintendo probably
They’ve ALWAYS sucked but had a very friendly face. Remember how they tried to ban renting in North America? They failed to do so for games, but they got their filthy clutches on the manuals so game shops weren’t allowed to rent those out. They didn’t need to do that but they did just to make the experience a little bit worse for us consumers.
Having said that… The US kinda fucked up themselves, so I’m not sure why Nintendo is being singled out.
because folks are bitter about they still charge $60 for a 10 year old game.
I’m not. I bought a switch 2 last month and Zelda BoTW for $70. It’s great. But what do I know, I’m a morally bankrupt bootlicker or something, because I was happy to spend my money on something that I am enjoying.
OK now divide the cost of the console over how many games you’ve bought
what? I literally just bought it 3 weeks ago. That number is going to be high because I only have 4 games.
I will buy more games as time goes by and that cost will go down. That’s how math works.
I also bought a PS5 four years ago, and only had a few games for it for the first few months… that’s how buying consoles/games works. Now I probably have like 50+ games for it, but it’s been years.
The alternative being… not paying and still getting it, Nintendo??
Or would you rather no one buy or play games from you? I stopped a long time ago.
Nintendo being anti-consumer is no surprise, but it’s nice to see someone tried to hold them to account.
So glad I personally didn’t buy a Switch 2.
I play my Steam Deck more than I play my Switch 2.
Likewise. The Switch 2 is a very nice handheld, but it doesn’t hold a candle to having a never-locked-down x86 PC in your hands.
it also costs half as much as a steamdeck.
you’re comparing a Civic to a BMW3 series and asking why the Civic doesn’t have leather seats and a 5K audio system.
If you want to discuss prices, discuss them fully. The Deck is more expensive, but the games are cheaper. And the day I bought the Deck I already had a massive collection, with many more games added for free from epic, giveaways…
Depends on when you buy the game. New retail games on steam deck are still 50-60 bucks.
I can also find massive discounts on digital games on switch. I just bought like a bunch of $5 or less games on the last eshop sale.
Does Zelda and Mario go on sale for $5? No. They go on sale for like $30-40. I also just bought Mario Odsyessy for $40.
I’m happy to pay these prices. Cool if you are not? Lots of people buy shit I would never spend my money on. I haven’t bought a gaming PC in 15 years, because it me it seems like a huge waste of money and time.
Almost as if other people have different preferences, and priorities than you do? And they are happy to buy products you are not.
Well, it does NOW. At the prices I paid the Steam Deck was only a bit more.
cool, and a few years ago you could get a switch lite for $200. still can, in fact.
I’m really not sure what point you’re trying to make here.
Is the Switch Lite the Honda Fit?
my point is everything was cheaper a few years ago.
I never played more Nintendo games in a year and I didn‘t pay for a single one!
Now that Nintendo greed is fully out in the open I hope a lot of their fans leave. The relationship should be symbiotic, not parasitic.
I doubt the majority of the nintendo customers are going to care to be honest. The only people that really got screwed were people decided to jump on board and buy the switch 2 after they raised the prices by 40$ in response to the tariffs.
Not saying that I think those customers who did spend more on it shouldn’t get a refund but, I do think that the majority of nintendo fans are either unaffected, or the amount wouldn’t be worth chasing. I highly doubt this instance will be the deciding factor on many fans for a “yea fuck Nintendo I’m out” reaction. There are far worse things that Nintendo has done that I think would have caused it prior.
