Firefox says it will keep supporting uBlock Origin even as Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers phase it out under Manifest V3.
Except Firefox and its forks, are there any other browsers that are not chromium based?
I can’t imagine using the web without firefox and ublock. Even the cookie consent popups are awful.
LibreWolf, WaterFox and Vivaldi
And Brave, don’t forget brave
No, you should forget brave it’s yet another piece of shit chrome knock off. Just like the rest. It ain’t immune. It can kick and scream but either the entire project dies or they bend the knee eventually.
As long as chromium is open source I see no problem down the line… and if Google one day stops the funding of open source projects, well, the Firefox is also toast
Ublock Lite still works in Chrome (and it still blocks YouTube ads, not sure about cookie popups), but you get no control over the filters. Just a slider with some presets to choose from. So while better than nothing, just stick with Firefox.
If it goes… I don’t know what I’ll do.
Go out and touch grass probably.
Get a hobby.
Perfect my molotov recipe.
air/land/sea drones for ordnance delivery
Yes, and “ordnance”! “Ordinance” is like a municipal law, “ordnance” is explosives. Not trying to be pedantic, trying to inform. Slava Ukraini, by the way. <3
never knew they were two words. thaanks
Come on, the meme format requires you to put another normal sentence at the end right after the provocative one lol.
I meant… Robot molotov. With AI. And cloud. And blockchain integration.
I don’t know what I’m doing I hope that will suffice.
Wait what meme format.
Alternate headline: Firefox is now the only browser worth using.
And in any case, lumping Firefox as one browser is disingenuous. There are numerous Firefox forks, just like every other major browser is in fact a Google Chromium fork.
it still boggles my mind that Microsoft developed Edge as a standalone browser as a replacement for IE then just said “nah, let’s just use Chromium.”
The best extension :)
+ a mediocre browser
No, you’re a mediocre browser
And his mom is too
Why?
It’s bait. The only “better” browsers are downstreams of FF.
What is mediocre about it? What would be an example of a good browser, and what are the differences?
im an old web dev and im stuck in my shitty ways which includes not liking how ff is the only effing browser that takes extra effort to make the front-end look and function correctly. tbh, i do use ff on android 99% of the time, but ff on desktop breaks too many sites if you have any inkling of ff’s security turned on.
im not wrong, you all are just fanboys
donated for a new cubical poster. w/e year that was. was new and better for a while.

Google is locking down Android too!
I.e. it is the last usable browser.
IE was the first unusable browser

Don’t get me wrong. We do indeed live in a dystopia. But Mv3 ad blockers seem to be effective–for now at least.

They “get the job done,” perhaps even provably, but:
-
It’s less flexible for fighting anti-adblocking.
-
Hence, it’s more work for Adblock devs/listmakers to maintain.
You can see the UBO devs already complaining/stressing about it. Hence them recently dropping Facebook from their 1st-party lists because they’re tired of fighting paid devs, or increased reports of UBO Lite specific issues.
I think that’s Google’s real intent.
They aren’t trying to kill adblocking, just make it inconvenient enough so the vast majority don’t use it effectively. It’s a form of “soft” censorship, sort of.
-
Wow
Every boardroom has their price.
Someday.
I’m not so sure about that, Ublock is the reason I use Firefox, and I don’t think I’m alone in that. And I’m pretty sure they know that.
Zen Browser ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
So Firefox?
All the other major browser has blocked it.
Future is dark:
-
Android getting locked down
-
They are asking your government ID to use OS, access internet etc.
There must be real protest, revolution, something otherwise it will just get worst
-
Use librewolf . I use librewolf and Brave browser if needed .
Why brave? I see a lot of seemingly tech savvy people using brave, and I don’t get it. Edge or chrome can do the same, in terms of rendering, and you don’t need to have software associated with Palantir installed.
May I present to you the hypocrisy of Lemmy?
Boo proprietary software, boo crypto brosBut brave? Insert spongebob wallet meme
I only use Brave when some site is genuinely broken on Firefox and actually needs Chromium. I only do this because of its built in ad blocker. I’m open to other suggestions. My default is Firefox.
Vivaldi is pretty neat, but as far as I understand it’s a closed source Chromium browser. Its my back-up one for when Zen(/Firefox) is having issues with a page, which thankfully is infrequent.
The main reason I steer clear from Brave is because of its founder (former Mozilla employee) who has donated to an anti-gay bill among other things.
do you have better alternative chromium based but privacy friendly?
I don’t know how “privacy friendly” the Chromium branded chromium browser is. But if I had to use a chromium browser, and Edge wouldn’t suffice, that’s where I’d look. Brave would probably be last on my list of browser choices, because I don’t even trust the installer to not give me a little bit of Palantir flavored malware. And that’s to a degree that I wouldn’t even run it in a VM on my daily driver.
https://7sees.substack.com/p/heres-why-i-dont-trust-brave-browser
If I wanted to spy on privacy minded individuals, who are harder to spy on than the average person, then I’d launch some privacy product, work up the hype, and have it spy for me. I could have formulated that idea before Brave was launched. Seeing how Brave is associated with Palantir, to me it’s already fishy. And when it’s main selling point is privacy and conducts themselves exactly like I would have expected a malicious actor to do, then I just don’t use Brave.
Thank you for the information.
