And of course, it traces back to microslop.

This is why software downloads should be self hosted, instead of relying on third party distributors.

This is what I’m running into trying to deGoogle, a lot of apps seem to just be on Google Play or a sketchy APK mirror site.

Aurora Store is good enough for most. It’s still on Google Play, but you’re not using the Google Play app and you can even pick which version and see an Exodus tracking report before you download.

Rather than finding the same app elsewhere, though, you should be looking for alternative apps on FDroid and the like. Unfortunately though FDroid is terrible for searching for apps, you just kind of have to “know” about the app you’re looking for first, somehow…

I have F-Droid and it’s good. I tried Aurora Store but it didn’t seem to have a search function, just lists of a few apps from random categories. Almost reminded me of browsing Netflix.

The easiest solutions which work for me is to use open source alternatives, which can be downloaded directly from developer, use web version of the app, like i do with google documents, or pirate it if it is not available in your region of the store.

Yep eventually in the deGoogle quest you just reach a point where you’re like “Well I guess I’m just not using that app anymore. Time to hit up AlternativeTo.net”
