I know about a half dozen younger people who voted for Trump, believing him to actually be the Senator Armstrong-type person the meme war made him out to be.

Seems to me you can handle it one of two ways.

One, you can punish the boomers. When Z gets in power, abolish pensions, Social Security, and Medicare. Let the old die from poverty and disease. And then you yourself won’t have any safety net when you’re that age.

Two, you can focus on the class struggle. Focus on weakening the billionaires who control us and who made up this bullshit in the first place. Target income inequality, access to services, and draconian employment practices. Begin the century-long transformation of capitalism. This is the harder road.

So which one will do more good?

Boomers own 52% of the country, they ARE the class struggle. Over 55s together over 70%. I don’t think anyone in gen Z is operating under the assumption they could ever retire anyway? They’re not pumping out enough babies to fund their retirement. Neither are us millennials.

Gen Z doesn’t need to be in power for this. The actual boomers are doing this on their way out.

This is your reminder that division along age or generation lines is as much of a distraction as division along race lines is. The real division is between who works for a living and who owns for a living. Simple as that. Sadly, the owning also includes owning the media and politicians (why yes, also most democrats), so there’s not much you can do either way. Get used to not owning a home.

Boomers own 52% of the country. Over 55s own about 73%. They ARE the ownership class. Billionaires are a minority of that class both by numbers and by assets. And most of the billionaires themselves are old fucks.

The boomer generation failed to develop class consciousness. GenXers failed as well, as did the Millenials after them and the Zoomers following.

The lack of sufficient class consciousness to positively impact society actually unites every generation more than it divides.

you make it sound like a failure of the generations, and not a heavily targeted campaign that was started before the millennials were born specifically to stop them.

The final fuck you is when they reverse mortgage the house and blow through their entire net worth, maybe leaving enough to cover the retirement home, before kicking the bucket and leaving their kids with fuck all.

The elected officials sending everyone off to die for war are often older than boomers. It’s a rich and powerful group more than a generational group.

You all collectively are dumping on boomers to satisfy a need to blame others for not having what you want or think you deserve. The right wing does the same thing only they have a greater diversity in who they hate. Lemme know how griping on social media is helping out with the situation…

What you said was “you’re all the same as the right because they blame other people”

I’m pointing out how stupid that is, because sometimes, other people are to blame. The right just hates the wrong people.

It’s not “boomers” exactly, but rather, people wealthy enough to live safe and healthy lives into old age.

I said people, as in people in general, like to blame others. I followed that with differences between the current state of left and right wing in the U.S. And I was sarcastic about it when I used the word “diversity” in regards to the multitude of people the right hates vs the left shitting on the elderly because shitting on anyone else will be met with a great amount of scorn.

Yes, and I pointed out that sometimes blaming others is correct, and sometimes it isn’t. You can’t just say “everyone likes to blame others” and pretend this is a useful insight.

In the context of the post that was yet another “it’s the boomers’ fault”, generalization is just fine. Nuance and Lemmy don’t get along very well. But sure, “it’s not all ___ people” works. Just don’t phrase it that way….

Maybe I’m too angry to express myself properly, but I hate it that these types of hater posts get so much attention. And if I keep going with my rant, I’ll just sound like Patrick Swayze’s character from Donnie Darko.
