i mostly agree, but there are too many jobs that really need to ignore standard holidays (like emergency department personnel and restaurateurs/grocers, to name a couple) because shit happens. it’s not often that i’m too exhausted to make a bowl of cereal, but if i’m that tired i’m going to buy some food instead of suffering, you know?
Easy enough to take the holiday on the next Friday/Monday.
Back in the day everyone but the hospitals were closed for the big holidays and it was fine. I even remember when most businesses were closed on Sundays in some places. You do just a little planing ahead and occasionally borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor.
The day off is a chance to relax so you aren’t to tired to cook.
My company don’t even give me all federal holidays. FFS
I strongly believe everyone should have all federal holidays off and paid. I also think there should be at least one holiday per month.
