Keisha Lance Bottoms will be the first Black female governor elected in the country, after she won the Georgia governor’s race, according to a race call by the Associated Press.

Bottoms’ win marks the first time Georgia has elected a Democratic governor in more than 20 years, breaking the Republican hold on state government in Georgia. But she will likely be working with a Republican majority in at least one chamber of the legislature.

    I’m so happy for her.

Texas just got a Hispanic woman governor pushing out Abbott too.

    Its a historical night.

Wild that we’ve been a country for 250 years and we’ve never crossed this particular intersection. Makes you think

It’s also wild that it’s Keisha Lance Bottoms, of all people. As an Atlantan, I didn’t like her as a city councilperson or mayor and I can think of several local black women who would’ve been better, such as Felicia Moore or Stacey Abrams. But in this case, she’s still better than the alternative.

That is simply huge. A few weeks ago people were talking about it being a split ticket election. Democratic Senator but Republican governor. Wow.
