One of those bags to keep your phone dry?
It’s weird, I read and respond to texts and listen to audiobooks on my phones speaker in the shower all the time. There’s a ledge outside of the water spray so it’s easy to navigate. I mean texts can usually wait but the ability to continue my audiobook from my headphones to my phone speakers for showering is key.
It’s 2 am right now and I was sleeping terrible. So I took my phone to the shower, not really to get clean, but just for comfort.
I have an old shitty shower/hot water heater it takes like five minutes for it to even get lukewarm so I usually dick around for five minutes while the water heats up
Most phones made now it seems are rated for being able to go underwater. I wouldn’t go swimming with mine or anything, but it often gets wet and it’s fine. The touchscreen doesn’t really work when wet, because it thinks it’s being touched all over. That’s the only part that needs to stay dry to operate in the shower.
Have to deeply self censor my comment…
guys… you are scaring me. No faith for humanity if you guys cant put down your collar for even 10 minutes in the shower…
Zombies
I don’t understand the people who say that they use their phones in the shower. I can’t even change songs on my phone if it gets water on it because the touch screen gets buggy. Also, what do you even do on your phone in the shower? It’s not a hands-off activity.
I usually listen to a podcast in the shower - bought a cheap shower phone holder on Amazon. Sometimes I browse ~
reddit~ Lemmy in the shower - phone is just held in front of me a bit to keep it out of the water, works fine.Ah, another person of culture. Podcast showers are great!
Do you just pause cleaning yourself when you browse? I’ve always used Bluetooth speakers in the shower for music. I love my Google mini for it.
The hell
I sometimes listen to music or watch videos in the shower. I double-bag it in clear plastic bags, and then put it in a safe location. When I change songs or videos, I can interact with the screen like normal. Maybe it’s just my phone or the plastic bags I use–maybe both?
I use something like below, minus the ziplock:
I suppose there are actual products meant for making phones more waterproof in these situations, but I didn’t bother looking for those.
Watching videos isn’t that weird. I tend to try to rush showers and wouldn’t be able to watch my phone while doing 90% of my washing, but it’s not that crazy. I’ve always used a Bluetooth speaker for listening to music in the shower. It’s much easier and doesn’t require me touching my phone.
Yeah, I suppose it isn’t as crazy as I thought people would perceive it to be.

Doesn’t this damage your Bluetooth speaker? Or is it, and especially its controls, waterproof/water-resistant?
I keep them on the counter, not in the shower. I did recently buy a cheap shower speaker for listening to music quietly. It sounds like shit and the suction cup isn’t great, but it’s waterproof.
I almost always use my Google mini because it has voice controls. If I suddenly decide I want to listen to something else I can without getting anything wet.
There definitely are. We use them when we go kayaking. Check camping supply places.
Thanks for this tip. I’ll keep this in mind the next time I’d literally touch grass (like a camping trip or sth), lol!
I hold my phone in one hand, out of the stream of water, and browse
RedditLemmy, Twitter, YouTube, whatever I feel like browsing. During this time, I’m not cleaning myself, I’m just standing, enjoying the hot water, and reading whatever I’m reading. With that said, I’ve stopped doing this because it’s a huge waste of water and money.
Bruh just take a bath
I’m good, baths suck.
why not take a bath? you won’t waste as much water as a fully running shower.
I find a bath less refreshing and also more likely to make me sweat and feel uncomfortably warm. I can take a pretty hot shower and still not have those problems.
I basically solved it by no longer taking my phone into the shower.
I put on a YouTube video and listen like a podcast. Mostly because it acts like a timer because I’ll spend way too long in there

Jokes on you I read r/showerthoughts in the shower
The shower is where I secretly watch porn in a house of 6 people. Let the water running and start beat my meat with hot water running at my beck.
We need a NoFap community on lemmy
Nofap is like a cult and the folks from that sub spread a lot of really stupid misinformation. Masturbation is healthy, safe, and a basic human need… but like everything it should be done in moderation. It reduces the change of prostate cancer, and keeps the pipes clean.
Be the change you want to see in the (lemmy.)world
No love for MoFap?
Until I get my waterproof VR headset
Sir, please get out of the pool and go back to your room.
I can finally have realistic drowning mechanics
You better hope for a waterproof VR brain interface because otherwise you’ll never get your hair washed.
Nope, people use phone in the shower all the time. It’s simply a place of quiet privacy
In the shower rn shopping for boxers
Man the future is crazy. Is it even ethical to resurrect a bioprinted copy of Mohammed Ali just for a chance to have sex with him in the shower?
Imagine being a bioprinted boxer from the 20th century, knowing without knowing how you know, that you’re in the distant future and that the moment you step out of the shower you’ll be painlessly destroyed, but not really caring because you have an irresistible urge for the person ogling you and you seem strangely obsessed with soaping them up.
They’re very good and loyal companions - oh you meant underwear
I use my phonein the shower all the time, I watch tv or read things online, who are these people just standing in the shower, not watching tv lol.
Man, I can’t even imagine wanting to bring my phone into the shower. “Just standing” there, alone with my thoughts, hot water relaxing muscles… Nothing needs me, I need nothing, the world is on hold until further notice. It’s meditative: Everything ceases mattering, ceases even existing - to resume later, of course, but in the meantime, perfect, relaxed, complete solitude. It’s perfect as it is. Music or videos or reading would ruin it. That’s all outside stuff, the outside should not exist.
It never even occurred to me that people would bring phones into the shower to actually do things. Never even imagined that that was a thing. Learn something new every day.
“Just standing” there, alone with my thoughts" yeah that’s the reason I have my phone in with me, usually with whatever show I’m watching at the time, being alone with my thoughts isn’t a good thing for me, I need something to focus on so I don’t have a stream of consciousness filling up my head.
Not saying it’s not possible. But I assume you don’t have showerthoughts when using it…
Same here. I’ve been doing for as long as my phones have been water resistant.
I’ve used my smartphone in the shower a handful of times already, but I usually take steps to double bag it (put it in a clear plastic bag upside down first, fold the excess, then put it in another clear plastic bag the right way up this time). I also just let it play music/video so that I can listen/watch while I shower.
It feels like a luxury to me when I do that.
And how many shower thoughts have you had since?
Hahaha! Touché. I’ve had none. I’ve some weird thoughts as I drift off to sleep though.
i have used all of mine in the shower for the last 10 years or longer. i keep a dry towel where i can reach it to dry my hands if i want to switch hands, or the screen if it gets splashed.
i even bring my ebook reader in here from time to time.
just dont hold them in the water and they are fine.
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
Buy a tenikle. Changed the way I shower. I’m more hooked to my phone than ever please help
Wow, that’s really interesting.
I have a MagSafe mount in the shower, so I can control Spotify while showering (oh and I also have a Bluetooth speaker in my shower).
I remember back in the 90s when I got a shower radio and I thought it was the pinnacle of human achievement.
Oh yes! Now I am curious what we are going to have in another 30 years…
