I wouldn’t hold my breath. Lawyers and ethics mix like oil and water.
Keep in mind, the only reason to advise this, because they will find out evidence was destroyed. The jury will be told evidence was destroyed and to assume it implicated the defense. That means that destroying it and the result of that, was better than what the actual evidence would have shown.
