    /J /J /J /J Nooooooooooo, thats not fair! How come you Ban USA politics! how? how people will know stuff they already know or spam USA politics memes so they can fight even more in the comments! This is an atrocious Rule, made to push away USA based users! Poor USA citizens are being turned away! What will they post now? USA is a super power and Meta, Apple, Tesla and Amazon will talk to President so they can crash you! You can’t stop USA politics dude! This is a war, like the other wars USA started!     Thank you for this. I know some people won’t appreciate it but not every community needs to be a full time political outlet.

      Sometimes people want a breather, myself included. If there weren’t so many other places to browse that kind of content, we wouldn’t have the rule.

      The population on Lemmy is very politically aware and has strong opinions, which is good, however that also means that it’s very easy for any community to become overwhelmed by it and suddenly have little else.

      In this context “politics” clearly conveys “things directly related to governments, such as wars, elections, or socio-economical ideologies”. It is only a subset of the definition of politics that you’re probably using, something like “things direct or indirectly related to human groups and their conflicts of interest”.

      We got a whole Lemmy to talk about Israel vs. Hamas, late stage capitalism, elections etc. We could - and should - have at least one community to chill and talk about other stuff, and without that rule we won’t have it. For example without that rule 99.99999% of the content as of late 2024 would be about Trump, as if Americans didn’t have multiple communities to talk about it already.

      It’s a good rule of thumb for media, but I don’t care for it’s use as a justification for constantly spamming low effort political memes like on r/adviceanimals. Winding yourself up about things you can’t control doesn’t make the world better, it just fucks up your mental health. There are no shortage of political communities to use on this site.
