They get the traffic data from some third party, not by following their users like gmaps.

Do you share data with third parties?
We send position data to our traffic provider to generate real-time traffic information. The data is anonymized on the phone, using a changing key (so it’s not linked to you), and it is deleted after 5 minutes.
They have a good privacy policy though. I haven’t really had many issues with their app.
It’s a paid service, so it’d be a bad default for a web browser. Not saying it’s a bad search engine; saying that it’s a bad search engine default for the every day folk who just installed a web browser.
I didn’t even know paid lunch breaks were/are even a thing. Most jobs I’ve been in had 30 min unpaid lunch.
I work 9 to 6 with 1 hour unpaid lunch at my current job. I don’t really do anything during my lunch besides sit in the office wasting time for an hour. Home is 30 min drive away, so I can’t go home. No parks nearby to walk around. Makes it feel like I am working a 9 hour shift getting paid 8 since I am sitting in the office for 9 hours…
I don’t think California would be able to handle the influx of people moving to California if they do pass universal healthcare. As a State, they don’t have as much funding as a Federal program would have.
There’s no AI on DDG
Uh… The settings for AI Chat and DuckAssist are both on by default when you use DuckDuckGo. You can see them in Settings -> AI Features
If Microsoft announces that this is going to be forcibly installed on all versions of Windows, then we can grab our pitchforks. Ideally this would end up being an opt-in feature. If it’s an opt-out when they release, again, pitchforks.
Well, per Microsoft’s website:
On devices that are not powered by a Snapdragon® X Series processor, installation of a Windows update will be required to run Recall.
So it sounds like everyone on Windows 11 will get it via Windows Update eventually
Self host FreshRSS, use the GReader or Fever API link that’s built into FreshRSS to sync to other apps on your local network. If you want to access the sync remotely, use Tailscale or setup Wireguard. I personally just run Wireguard in OpenWrt
There is no need to expose FreshRSS to the internet

Just looked into these. It doesn’t look like any of these have official Linux apps :(
Wait… I already now get annoying ads in the middle of watching a show. Now they want to add more ads to Prime Video? That’s absolutely ridiculous.
I guess looking at their official 2023 report, it does look like they make a lot in the North American Zone (Canada, US, Mexico) compared to other zones.
I am confused why you’re talking about USA. The article doesn’t mention USA, and Nestle is a Swiss company.
I mean, better regulations in the US would be great though
On expensive ER bills that only exist because people couldn’t afford to visit a GP five years earlier and get some cheap off the shelf preventive medicine.
A few years ago, I went to the ER because I was feeling abnormally unwell. Sat in the ER for an hour then nurse finally took me into a room. They had to leave to do something immediately after putting me in a room. Sat there for 15 minutes and realized that my body was starting to feel much better so I left.
I got a $3000 bill after insurance. The hospital declined my financial assistant application to get my bill reduced because they said I made too much money. I made $16/hr at the time in an expensive metro area. Ended up paying it off on a 3 year plan.
I find it interesting that it didn’t get review bombed on Apple.
On the Google Play Store, it’s pretty bad

Love Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauce and Sempio for standard use. I agree that they are so much better then Kikkoman imo
It’s usually pretty easy to find other better soy sauces at most Asian grocery stores around the same price as Kikkoman
I ended up randomly getting the English Hamtaro theme song stuck in my head this week
Ever since the Reddit exodus, so many people joined Lemmy who just assumes everyone lives in the US.
“My rent is only $----/mo”. In what currency? A lot of countries use $.
I noticed that sometimes comments asking “What currency?” or “What country?” gets downvoted even though the original post / comment isn’t obvious that they are talking specifically about US :(
1/3rd of our backyard is native plants, and other 2/3rd is concrete. We have a table in the back that we normally like to hang during the day instead of staying inside. Sometimes reading, playing games on laptops, chatting, eating, etc.
We decided to let our backyard grow wild for a few months. Now we keep getting a lot of ten-lined June beetles, moths (lots of morning-glory plume moths), bees, blister beetles, lacewings, katydid, stink bugs, earwigs, among other bugs.
Never seen a ten lined June beetle until we did this. Their hissing freaked me out the 1st time I saw them. And their grips are so strong when trying to get them off our backyard curtain that we use to block the sun. They are pretty cool looking though, and huge!
We haven’t sat outside really in a couple months now because it isn’t that enjoyable when there are so many bugs around you, sometimes crawling on you, and sometimes ending up in my teacup or on my food plate. We’re probably going to cut it back again and maintain it more so that we can actually use our backyard again
