“Violence has no place on Reddit,” the spokesperson said. “Our sitewide rules strictly prohibit any content that encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence. In line with these rules, we are removing any instances of the suspect’s manifesto or recordings and hashing to prevent reupload. We’re also closely monitoring the communities on our platform to ensure compliance with our rules.”
But they have no problem with violent right wing subreddits.
r/combatfootage has never been taken down. It’s by far one of the most violent subs ever published on reddit.
Yeah I got banned for violating rule one when I said “I hope he gets sick and dies” about DT. They claimed that was a threat of violence. I told them they needed to keep a dictionary on their desks, cause obviously they can’t fucking read.
Pretty sure its some sort of automation doing the bannings/suspensions these days. It probably picked up “I hope… he… dies.” Or some bullshit.
I’ve been suspended so much from reddit lately for the most boring stuff. Last time I was suspended for saying trump should be deported to El Salvador. Like, where is the reason to suspend me? That’s what trump supports!
Glad lemmy is my daily driver now.
I appealed, they denied and in the denial explicitly stated that my comment had been reviewed by a human.
I caught a ban over there for joking that some lefty frat bro types needed to follow around Matt Gaetz and hype him up into doing good things whenever he accidentally calls for something positive because he was talking about showing the receipts and taking the GOP down with him when they were stonewalling him after the AG thing.
What does this have to do with politics? Anti-natalism isn’t exactly a right- or left-wing ideology either.
What violent right-wing subs are they okay with?
The crossover with Pro-choice is fairly significant.
Good. I’ve seen stuff on that sub back when I used that site. It’s takes “I don’t want to have kids and society should stop making me feel bad about it” to the extreme of “nobody should have kids and people that do are child abusers”.
Sadly, they seem like a lot of broken people.
Not broken. Just mentally unwell. We have a national mental health crisis. Normalizing and increasing accessibility to treatment is vital.
I don’t know if it’s mentally unwell to not want children or to question the sanity of having children in this current society or other such situation like the poverty 2/3rds the world experiences.
As a parent, I feel guilt for my child to have to put up with this bs, especially in the workforce that I have dealt with in the 21 years I’ve been working. This shit sucks, and I hate living in this capitalist society we’ve built. There’s no logical way to escape it and just live freely.
And I’m poor in America. It’s even worse being poor outside of America. I honestly think it’s mentally unwell to keep having children in those circumstances.
And let’s add some context before I get chewed out by the smiling happy NT people:
I am autistic. My son is autistic. Life is very difficult and stressful every day because society was not built in any way that fits us. We have priorities and needs that run completely opposite of American society, its economy, its structure. The toiling for ten hours, coming home in the same traffic, raising kids until night, getting an hour to yourself, then bed to just wake up and do it all again for 40 years just feels like death.
And who wants to be forced to subjected to that?
Acting upon a perceived moral imperative to prevent others from procreation demonstrates a lack of interpersonal boundaries. Mentally fit people don’t kill themselves in fertility clinic explosions.
Well obviously that individual was mentally unwell. But the sentiment that one shouldn’t have a child by their own choice due to environmental circumstances by itself isn’t mentally unwell.
I don’t believe people should make that choice for others, but it shouldn’t be seem so abnormal if one does feel that way because, well, *gestures around wildly *
I think you were talking about people who believe in not having kids, and the other commenter was talking about people who want to blow themselves up to prevent others from having kids.
You are correct 🫡
Agreed. This place is a nightmare. Lol
It would be a whole lot better if more people took care of their mental health, and we didn’t elect psychopathic narcissists into the highest office in the US.
One could argue forcing a child to be born into a dying world “demonstrates a lack of interpersonal boundaries.”
Do you believe someone other than the parents should be empowered to make that determination?
I believe anyone who is capable of processing our current reality and the course we are heading down, who still chooses to create a life, is knowingly performing a selfish and immoral act.
That’s fair, but I was asking if you believe it’s ethical to enforce that opinion on others.
Such deep moral philosophy over here.
Humans are mostly sentient biological machines at the end of the day, hard wired for an instinctual need to reproduce. Without children, everything falls apart. South Korea, Japan, China, Germany, US, etc etc all have declining birth rates. Fortunately for many Western countries, we’ve had immigrants to provide a buffer against the inverted age demographic pyramid crisis. South Korea, on the other hand, is looking at essentially a full economic collapse by 2060 because their birth rates have continually declined for so long and right now is at 0.76.
So tell me, when millions of old people are dying from neglect and no access to healthcare, food, etc. from lack of workers in 2070, will you be sitting there with such a mighty, holier than thou attitude? Probably, because you likely just have an edgy hot take that humans are garbage and deserve to go extinct. Such deep moral philosophy, you should teach in college.
Ah, you’re also an ecofash doomer anti-natalist, that’s why you’re defending this guy.
Not ecofash
Not a doomer
Not an antinatalist
Sorry
Also meaningfully addressing the underlying causes of an enormous amount of anxiety. Therapy is good for and should be easily available to everyone, but you can’t therapy your way out of rampant climate change, wealth inequality, and governmental rot.
Well adjusted people would be more inclined to believe experts in their respective fields than thinking they know everything. They’d also be less susceptible to fearmongering propaganda.
It wouldn’t fix anything overnight, but it would certainly improve everything over time.
Reddit is the place that proves that this society have an extreme mental health issue.
I think this is one of the challenges of the internet. If I’m at work, school, the store, etc. and I see a nutjob, I can usually recognize it and I will treat that person differently and I sure the heck aren’t going to give his opinions a lot of credibility. On the internet, we are all equal. It has some benefits, but there’s a major disadvantage that people suffering from serious delusions are treated the same as everyone else.

This community sucks but we far as I know none of these people suggested bombing a fertility clinic on it. Do they ban all Muslim subs after Islamic terror attacks or anti abortion subs when someone bombs an abortion clinic? I hate the direction Reddit moderation has taken because this kind of reactionary bullshit will probably just push these people onto telegram chats and discord channels where they actually will get radicalized instead of just whining about how they wished they had never been born.
No but they did ban a whole subreddit (WatchPeopleDie) dedicated to footage of people dying back in 2018 after they dared to show footage of the Christchurch mass shooting - without any prior admin warning whatsoever.
And honestly Reddit were a bunch of hypocrites for how they handled that situation, especially since WPD had tonnes of uncut ISIS execution videos hosted on their subreddit a few years back and nobody on the board gave a shit.
In those days, admins basically only banned subs that got large amounts of negative press.
Yes absolutely, they let some ghoulish subs stay up for a very long time until a news piece would be written about it. Like r/cutedeadgirls, r/jailbait, and r/fatpeoplehate
Reddit has banned a community devoted to a nihilistic, anti-life philosophy
This sentence contradicts itself. Devotion to a philosophy or ideology is precisely what nihilism is not.
To the argument “The Earth is valuable and should be protected” the nihilist would point out that earth having value depends on the continued existence of Humans.
I thought that was existentialists
That’s an interesting viewpoint. Personally, I think the nihilistic persective is somewhere among the lines of:
At some point, all life shall cease. This is not an opinion, it is an unavoidable fact. All of our pretty houses will be gone, and so will all of our loved ones, that we so cherish. Even if we manage to find a cure to all disease, this will be meaningless. We will inherit the legacy of our indifferent universe: empty, dead space. At the very end, every single moment of our collective existence will be essentially reduced to such an absolute state of nothingness, one that we can’t even perceive. If you think about it, the only sane action, when faced with this truth, is inaction, for all is meaningless. The earth doesn’t have value because it has life. It lacked any value to begin with, for it too, will at some point be gone, likely much sooner than we think…
Or some shit like that. Hope I didn’t give you depression lol. Stay in school ig?
I disagree with the premise that the Earth is valuable because of the existence of humans, historical or continued. Indeed I would argue that it is less so, from certain perspectives.
Value is a human created concept. So with out us there is no value.
Other creatures will have their own form of value if they even have the ability to understand such a concept.
That’s such bullshit. The whole concept of anti-natalism is built around suffering being bad. Bombing people is causing suffering and goes directly against AN.
I can understand the opinion that bringing kids into the world is causing them harm because the world sucks. But the number of people who seemed to bring that opinion into the real world on that sub was kind of scary.
Not an insignificant number of people who had stories like “my stupid natalist coworker wanted to take off to attend their kids’ graduation, I told them I wouldn’t help and they shoulda thought about that before they had their little shitstains” were there.
Like having kids already sucks enough, making parents’ lives harder seems to be actively adding to the harm you’re trying to reduce…
Great comment. That’s what I’ve felt about being antinatalist myself. Not having kids is harm reduction, why would you harm others trying for a kid?
Yeah I’m bitter towards my parents for handing me a huge bill every month to keep existing, but I wouldn’t bomb the hospital I was born in.
Turns out, people who are willing to blow others up dont usually think all that clearly.
“Being born is like being kidnapped, and then sold into slavery.”
-Andy Warhol
We will see more people who feel this way as our society deteriorates under corrupt leadership.
Edit: he didn’t hurt anyone besides himself, more than can be said for the avg right wing terrorist.
He did injure 4 people, but they’ve been released from the hospital.
Andy Warhol had such a hard life.

Reddit’s (to some exent, Lemmy too) Misanthropy is kinda oddly unsettling.
I mean, people would joke about ending the world because humans “deserved it”, sure funny joke, but I’m starting to be worried if they are just joking or are some people actually planning to “punish” humanity for the wrongdoings of a few politicians that run the world.
Echo toxic sentiments for long enough and people are going to start believing it.
I’m about 95% sure that communities like 4chan, Reddit, Poal, 8Kun, etc are the reason why the American & European political climates are now so fucked.
Considering how many people joke about wanting to die, who claim they have nothing to lose, are just waiting for “something” then do nothing once fascism shows up and they have a perfectly valid excuse to make a splash for a good cause and still don’t… I don’t actually think we have much to worry about, there’s an incredible disconnect between what people say/do and who they believe they are on the internet and reality
People that correctly recognize the state of the world are naturally antinatalist, if not misanthropic.
We took a world that produced practically infinite food for free and somehow invented credit scores while causing the single fastest mass extinction event in earth’s history.
Antinatalism is what you get when a narcissist is suicidal. “If I shouldn’t live, nobody should!”
Counterpoint - antinatalism is what you get when the world is objectively a much worse place during someone’s prime reproductive years than it was during their childhood.
That offers an explanation as to why someone might choose to not have kids, not why someone should believe that nobody should and start using toxic pejoratives for people who do.
When there are more humans and everything is getting worse some people will suggest that more humans makes things worse and advocate for less humans to make things better.
The pejoratives thing is just how identities work - making fun of or insulting people who don’t share your identity is just a near universal feature of having an identity.
The idea that your identity can/should/must include inventing cruel language to enforce the idea that people who are unlike you are disgusting and lesser is a pretty significant part of the reason things aren’t good and are getting worse. The idea it’s acceptable or tolerable isn’t great.
It may surprise you how many people don’t invent language to diminish others, and are diligently working to avoid language that already exists.
I’m not saying it’s good or even super common, just observable. People make up names for people who think differently than them. Once a group hits a certain size, it’s just pretty likely that they’ll have those sorts of terms, even if only a small percentage actually use them.
Antinatalism =/= Misanthropy
Except he was the only one who died?
He targeted an empty building. But this is going to be spread more than any right wing mass shooter in the last decade.
Targeted an empty building and somehow missed… still managing to hospitalize 4 other people.
I doubt the 4 people who were immediately released from the hospital were hurt at all.
Go be mad about a real problem
